| 1458358 | 2019-02-17 08:42:00 | Drones are the ultimate panacea for tired journalists short on clickbait for today. If in doubt scream "Drone" and the federation of airline pilots will obediently go into their chorus. They are totally unsuitable as a consumer item in a small percentage of current society. Just as cars and sharp pointed objects should be kept away from some people, drones should be kept away from - generally - the same group. Alas, airline pilots are far more risk to airline passengers than civilian drones will ever be, the "Kill-ratio" of drones to airline pilots has not changed one iota from the days when there were zero drones (Zero drone caused fatalities worldwide) to today when there are millions of them flying (Still zero drone caused fatalities worldwide). |

| 1458361 | 2019-02-17 19:01:00 | This perhaps? taic.org.nz There was an article in the Listener the other week about them. Pilots of old were quoted, some were not too cautious with their flying too. I imagine when you're in such a zone, and concentrating on fires, it's even worse. |

Most of the 'drone sightings' simply arnt . We have pilots claiming to see drones at height the drones simply cant reach Chances of seeing a nearby drone while your plane is flying at 500mph . . . . . :banana Gatwick airport 'drone issue': there was zero proof of any drones . Zero, in fact one police official admitted there may never have been any drones zero actual drones , airport shutdown for a day or so . They are no more of a threat to aircraft than seagulls . Planes have been bought down by bird strikes, but no media sensationalism over birds |

| 1458363 | 2019-02-17 21:22:00 | Just to add , drone laws in NZ are quite strict. Its illegal to fly over people without their permission, its illegal to fly over other peoples property without permission :that includes parks, beaches, farms, roads Its illegal to fly further than line of sight : you cant fly so far that can no longer see the drone You'll alllways get some idiots with drones you also get idiots with cars, bikes, escooters causing actual injuries to others |
