1459039	2019-03-17 19:34:00	All this crap on the net about the need for machine guns....sure. Shooting an animal with one is like fishing with dynamite. For thousands of years people managed with spears and arrows. I never met any farmers with them, most had 22s or shotguns. The only guy I know with any, is an urban guy who inherited a collection from his dad. He's been selling them, he has a couple of guns himself and goes to a shotting club, but they are not glocks or these things that guy used. People who insist on those are like those who "need" pitbulls or loud noisy cars. Compensation and husband agreed with me. The guy was a coward anyway, running away cause someone fought back. Without shooting at him too, just throwing stuff at him. And it's not immigration...it's weeding out the nutters. Remember this guy was a white Aussie. All muslims are not terrorists, as all Christians are not part of the inquisition. I agree religion is ****, but if you eliminated it, humans would still be killing each other over culture, clothes, skin colour, food types, any thing they could think of. Humans are tribal and f***d in the head. We should breed it out of ourselves.	piroska (17583)
1459040	2019-03-17 19:59:00	I've been hesitant to post on this one, such a horrible thing to happen and no way to say anything that will help anybody. I guess it's understandable that it prompts a discussion about gun control but I'm not sure that's going to achieve anything either. The sort of people who do these things are beyond my understanding, but no gun control laws are going to stop them. There are two extreme ends to the gun control issue and neither is a good option - arm everybody all the time and mass shootings probably go away, but all kinds of other shootings accidental or otherwise will increase just because there are more guns around and will the loss of life actually reduce or become 1 or 2 deaths here and there all the time so common we don't even comment on it? At the other end of the scale ban all guns - and then probably discover some people still have them anyway and it's not actually that hard to make your own. There is no way to remove guns 100% from society. Any solution falls in the middle somewhere and will never make everyone happy or work 100%. On the one hand I'm personally against firearms for personal defense and don't believe hand guns and automatic weapons have any legitimate reason to be owned by anyone in this country. (we don't have bears here, I will concede Joes desire to keep breathing is a good argument where he is). On the other hand if tragedies like this start to become more frequent I totally understand why people would want to defend themselves and feel the need to be armed, I might even join them myself. 1459041	2019-03-17 23:06:00	If you are the sort of person that wants to own military style weapons, Id say you arnt the sort of person that should be allowed a gun lic. a NZ Gun Club full of nutters , reported to police, twice, by other gun owners They where white , so nothing happened. If that particular gun Club had been Maori or Islam, there would have been dawn raids , houses searched , confiscations etc. I watched a couple of the news vid clips on the RT News Youtube channel. It was the public comments below the clip that really shocked me. So many nutters out there: claims it was a false flag, never happened and other conspiracies .	1101 (13337)

As far as we know this nutter had a gun license and apparently acquired all of his weapons, legally here in NZ. If the law had been changed a few years ago to ban these types of weapons then he wouldn't have had them. The law needs to change. There is no sane argument that we need these types of weapons. Ban Automatic and Semi-Automatic Firearms except for the Military and Police. Real hunters don’t need Automatic guns, indeed a single shot and a few extra rounds is all they require. 1459045	2019-03-18 03:07:00	I was always under the impression that it was very difficult to obtain a license for automatic, or semi automatic guns in New Zealand. I am surprised that the weapons used were semi automatic (it is quite easy to convert them to fully automatic). Not forgetting the vast amount of ammunition that the shooter had. Gun licenses should be restricted to manual shot guns, and manual loading rifles. Farmers and Hunters should be able to obtain a license, and provide proof that they are hunters or farmers. Hunters should have to apply for a hunting license which would stipulate the number of animals they could kill. Ammunition would also be licensed, and the quantity allowed would be based on their assessed requirements. Target shooters would be restricted to small bore, single shot rifles, and pistols. They would also have to be members of a registered gun club with a shooting range.	mzee (3324)

Man, 18, to appear in court over Christchurch attack video Police said he was arrested during the initial stages of the investigation on Friday. He has been charged under the Films Videos and Publications Classification Act and will appear in Christchurch District Court. Police said they did not believe he was directly involved in the attacks. The live stream video of the shootings in Christchurch has been classified by the Chief Censor's Office as objectionable. Police said anyone in possession of the video of the shootings, or found to be distributing it, could face imprisonment.	baabits (15242)
1459047	2019-03-18 03:22:00	Firearms do not make people bad. I'ts the idiots, and low life who have them that make the guns bad. When I was 16 years of age I always carried a .22 automatic pistol, and usually a .455 Webley revolver, they were licensed, and legal. This did not turn me into a killer. It took the British Colonial Office to do that when I was called up at aged 18 "to defend your country from terrorists". After a couple of years of killing people for the British government, they handed the country over to the same terrorists, and abandoned us loyal idiots to our fate. I was lucky, and was able to leave, some had to stay and suffer the consequences.	mzee (3324)
