I have recently installed a Samsung EVO 970 M.2 in my Dell i7 5000, Mint & W10 dual booted. It will not work if RAID is enabled, and requires AHCI to be enabled. If W10 is updated it sometimes changes the boot order in the BIOS. |

I don't know if I have resolved my problem. I bit the bullet and took the SSD from the laptop. I disconnected all of the drives in the Desktop, changed the BIOS to use AHCI, previously it was IDE, and then installed the SSD. I then used the Windows 10 media from a USB to do a clean install which wiped the SSD and installed Win10 Pro along with the AHCI drivers. I have now spent sometime rebuilding the SSD with my programs. I have reconnected two 2TB Sata HDDs for storage and everything has worked well since. Long may it continue! |

I may be mistaken, but IDE refers to conventional hard drives only. The Samsung SSD is SATA 3 & requires AHCI. |
