1455842 2018-11-21 03:13:00 Hi.
What are options for watching TVNZ on demand & TV3 on demand on a TV .
Im pretty sure the TV doesnt have the required app , its network connected so has youtube etc

Needs to be almost 100% foolproof , for someone with little tolerance of things that are flaky
Freeview Box is one option , although Im not even sure that works 100% now (stopped working on my Freeveiw box)
Chromecasting : how reliable is that ? Will "TV on demand" websites cast ?

any other options , old person user compatible ?

But for someone that really needs things simple the Apple tv4 includes apps for tv3 and tvnz I demand . Plus a stack of others . It it’s getting up there in price . About $270 I think .

I’d remcommend that over a “smart” tv as I’d bet Apple would have support for longer than the tv manufacturers .

I use an Apple TV myself on a telly from 2008, where my only requirement is an hdmi port .

This.

If the TV has HDMI then most likely also has some form of HDMI control so the Apple TV remote is all you will need.
It will automatically turn the TV on and off when you turn the Apple TV on or off, and volume control will also work.

Price is $249 new, for the 1080p model, or $299 for the 4k model.

I got a brand new one on Facebook marketplace for $150, as one of the ISPs was giving them away when you signed up, so there are people selling them cheaper.
Just make sure it's a 4th Gen model and not 3rd gen.

Three Now states :
Yes! Chromecast is now supported for ThreeNow compatible iOS and Android devices .

Just tried on my android Tablet, needed to install the Three now app which worked fine, but there was no option to cast . BUT that more than likely is because my Android is to old .

"Casting your Android screen is available on devices running Android 5 . 0 or higher . "

1455847 2018-11-21 08:13:00 Find Chromecast was worth getting thinking I didn't need it

Went with the Chromecast Ultra and decided to attach to router by network cable(after having to move Router) as the Wifi distance was to far

Everything works beyond my expectations (yes TVNZ and others on demand)

Also now not have to use the Chrome Browser to cast to TV as I use Opera browser and lately have offered Cast support
