| 1165214 | 2010-12-28 06:46:00 | Hi Team, 6 questions on benefits (or otherwise) of Win 7 migration. My hardware consists of :- Elite LAS8A2 Mobo: Intel P4-2.53: 2 Gb DDR400 ram: 2 x 80 Gb HDD’s: a Radeon 9250 pro 8X AGP video card: An Asus DVD DRW1608p3s: Winfast TV2000xp video capture card: Netcom NB6plus4 ADSL2+ router and a HP DeskJet 820cxi printer well past its use by date. The mother board is maxed out at 2 Gig DDR400 but can go to 3Gig with DDR333 ram. My operating system is windows 2 K pro fully up-dated on one HDD. This is VERY stable ! The other HDD is dual booted with the same Op system, programs and data as a back up machine. I mostly use MS office 2003 pro: MS Publisher 2: Mozilla FireFox: Acrobat Reader, Paintshop Pro 4: Skype: Zone alarm: Avast anti virus and a few legacy programs from Win 95/98se and one from Win 3.11 even, believe it or not. My questions are :- 1. Will the above hardware run Win 7 2. Can I do an upgrade or will I have to format and do a full install and re-install all my application programs on the prime HDD. 3. Will I be able to continue with the dual boot with Win 2K on the second HDD. 4. Will the above application programs run under Win 7. 5. Is there any advantage to be gained by going to DDR333 ram. 6. Is there any advantage in going to Win7 anyway, My Win 2K install is very solid. I am not a gamer. Your views are eagerly awaited………… |

| 1165217 | 2010-12-28 08:01:00 | You could even benefit with an upgrade to Windows XP :eek: Having just installed Windows 7 on my former Vista PC, I've found that its new features such as Aero Snap and Shake to be incredibly useful. Windows 7 will run on those specs, however it may not run well as gary67 said (especially on a single core CPU :eek:) What programs are you using for Windows 3.1? Windows 7 can run pretty much anything Vista can, so if it's known to work on Vista, then there's really no barrier IMO. Sometimes sticking with what you know for years on end holds back the rest of the world. ;) |

| 1165218 | 2010-12-28 08:10:00 | I'm successfully running 7 Ultimate on my system specs. -It boots up fast -It multitasks Firefox, Foobar2000 and Adobe Audition 1.5 seemlessly. It even Deinterlaces dvds in Realtime with no Frame lag. I am gonna get myself some more ram though, as i want my pc to be more up to scratch. |

Windows 7 can run pretty much anything Vista can, so if it's known to work on Vista, then there's really no barrier IMO. ex 3.11 ms publisher 1.0 bookcase 94 card file ms money 3.0 free agent 1-2.1 ex win 95 guide 5.0 ( astronomy program) pegasus emailer 3.1 all run fine on win2k pro |

| 1165222 | 2010-12-28 12:24:00 | dual boot should work fine as long as you install Win 7 to a new hdd or partition it should automatically create a boot menu, at least it does with XP never had your particular OS myself. I temporarily took half the RAM out of my core 2 quad leaving 2G and I have to say WIN 7 ran quite sluggishly, probably can be tweaked but at default settings it was not a good experience (not the PC in my sig) |

Will the above application programs run under Win 7. . What version of Zone Alarm? You may have to chnage to a newer one - especially if the Win 7 is 64 bit. |
