1165833 2011-01-19 23:21:00 This is about as much help as a paper bag in a storm, But to me it does sound like ubuntu is trying to load in graphics / resolution that the monitor cant handle.

Sorry , but as I mentioned before - I dont know enough about Ubuntu to help.

I know a little about Ubuntu but windows trouble shooting is a easier for me - the fact you said W7 works implies its ubuntu playing silly buggers.

1165834 2011-01-19 23:22:00 Nothing. No POST, nothing. Wondering if I have the wrong version of Ubuntu - but it installed OK

1165835 2011-01-19 23:25:00 So you get nothing at all, the computer doesn't even start properly? The computer must be working if Windows 7 works as wainuitech said.

There isn't really a wrong version of Ubuntu but the older versions are unsupported. What version are you trying?

1165836 2011-01-19 23:39:00 Just a thought --- been doing some reading (and stabs in the dark) is the monitor Cable DVI or VGA. Some forums had this problem using a DVI , changed to VGA and it seemed to work. wainuitech (129)
1165837 2011-01-19 23:57:00 I installed Ubuntu 10.10.?.? Yeah, I get nothing, though I can load Win7 and it runs sweetly.

WT, *dumb look*, what's the difference between DVI/VGA. Cable is a standard cable. OK, I checked Google and I have a VGA

So how did you install Ubuntu this time - Wubi? Live CD? Alternate install CD?

What process do you go through to tell Ubuntu to load at startup?

1165839 2011-01-20 02:20:00 Just the standard Ubuntu 10.10.?.? you download from the website - no alternate, no wubi - and the installation went smoothly.

1165840 2011-01-20 02:22:00 When you turn the PC on, you must get some kind of option to choose between Ubuntu and Windows 7, correct? Agent_24 (57)
1165841 2011-01-20 02:38:00 No, nothing. It was a clean Ubuntu install, onto a clean HD. Win7 not installed. So no, no option, nothing.

1165842 2011-01-20 02:51:00 Am I correct in saying you dont even get the BIOS flashing up ?

If so, this is very odd, as it hasn't even gotten to the OS ( no matter which one) at this stage.

Can you try something please - unplug the Hard Drive, then press the power button, does the BIOS now show, and complain about no HDD ?

AND the live CD runs OK ?

Edited:
Silly Question (many have been caught by this, me included) - you dont have a Graphic card, and on board graphics do you - and have plugged in the monitor to the on board by mistake ?
