| 1120080 | 2010-07-21 05:21:00 | My point exactly, another rip off merchant, they have a virtual monopoly. Do you remember the eys specialist came from Oz a few years ago,the locals didn't like it at all. What?! You'd like to open up the supplier-side of these types of services to less qualified people? Madness. These professionals have years of training followed (eventually) by years of specialist practical experience. They don't have a virtual monopoly - the have an actual one, by dint of their specialist knowledge and training. Would you take your computer to be fixed by a car salesman? Or your car to be fixed by an accountant? Just because they might charge less? I seem to recall a thread a while back on the subject of computer repair charges - went along similar lines to this thread: customers bleating that a tech took 15 minutes to fix a problem they couldn't fix themselves and charged them $200 (for instance). Bottom line, if you don't want the job done right for the going price, go somewhere else and get screwed over. |

You seem to live in another world, Australians were mentioned, and I suspect they are as qualified as NZ's. |

You are correct - they were, but a cabal of Southerners ganged up to keep them out of the market. However, I don't know whether the Oz specialists were offering lower rates. Perhaps (like the locals) they saw an opportunity to snork at the same trough. Perhaps pctek or one of our southern brotherhood/sisterhood would know - it received a lot of coverage down there. |

| 1120083 | 2010-07-21 05:38:00 | Dermatologist charges $250 for an appt that might only take 15mins and write you a script. Mine only charges $80, and she checks blood tests every three months and sends me a report without charge. |

| 1120084 | 2010-07-21 05:48:00 | Maybe not $250, perhaps $120 in Welly or $150-180 in Dunedin back a few years. No test was done on me. Just a observation for skin allergies. At the Marinoto Clinic in Dunedin, they do visits to the public hospital and at their private clinic. My GP charges $45 .. you had a bargain. |

| 1120086 | 2010-07-22 05:11:00 | Bugger. I will try to find out the fees at Elmwood before shifting. She is a great dentist, so I will only leave for compelling economic reasons! | John H (8) | ||
| 1120087 | 2010-08-30 07:45:00 | Both of us went to our dentist today, Herself with a chipped tooth, me with a lost filling. Here is the damage: Me - two fillings (one a bit complex, one replacing a lost filling, so little drilling for that one) $120 + $100; Xrays and exam, scale and clean $120; = $340 Herself - one filling $60; Xrays and exam, scale and clean $120; = $180 Total $520, which means between us we have been renting our teeth for $5 per week each for the past year. Fees seem a bit cheaper than originally quoted by Cicero. |
