This happens frequently in any pages relating to disputes, not only in the lavant but, korea, sudan, somalia, checnea(?sp), the niger delta, zimbabwae, iran, ect, ect, :angry |

I fear you must travel further than wiki to get a true picture of a very complex period in history. its a bit like digging up the true reasons for the french chumminess with the british after 1870. :) HA, That was a joke as I made my exit from the debate. |

According to them it was just like I said earlier, so that's good enough for me. The pope at the time envisioned being the head of a super power and at the first minor incident that came to him, built an army, whipped up the masses, and invaded for the purpose of slaughter and land. |

| 1120151 | 2010-07-20 23:25:00 | Metla, They wernt ready for war which is why the first part of he first crusade were mostly unarmed pauper pilgrims, only after their slaughter did the "Rich" Knights become interested, the whole mess snowballed from there. Stunning stuff. The unarmed pauper pilgrims were an army raised by the pope to invade, on the promise that all their sins would be absolved and they would be guaranteed a place in heaven,or a place in hell if they turned back. Instead of the expected army he got a migration of peasants fearing for their souls who were promptly slaughtered. This is evil stuff, The Pope should have been executed and the church outlawed. |
