1120040 2010-07-19 05:10:00 Don't trust dentists!
My former dentist obviously erred somewhere putting in fillings, because one of the ones he put in around 1956 fell out about 4 years ago. It was a 17/-6d mercury filling too. The Tupperware replacement cost $120, and fell out a year later. I must say that the rest of the fillings the first bloke put in are still going strong. When your dentist is an All Black, he can probably pack fillings in pretty firmly.
I thought the first one was bad enough, but the modern dentist makes it quite obvious why they prefer cash jobs; they have to change towns pretty frequently ;)

1120041 2010-07-19 05:20:00 Luckily it hurts like the devil, its ugly, and it takes a long time.

Not as long as you'd think.
Mine took 2 months for the nerve to die, it required self surgery to remove pus a few times since but hey, it's still there and cost me nothing.

I couldn't even find a dentist to do anything with it and now it's dead they tell me it would cost hundreds to remove as it might break now.
Whatever.......can't afford them anyway.

1120042 2010-07-19 05:36:00 My teeth have been pretty good but my dragon reckons the hundreds of Woodies I am tipping down my neck are going to rot my teeth.
As soon as the dentist starts talking root canal its nup rip the ****** out. My body just isnt worth the $1500 bucks plus for root canal. If I was a car I would have been abandoned outside Pick A Part.

1120043 2010-07-19 05:47:00 Oh man, I am sooo lucky with my dentist. I have never been charged more than $35 for a filling! She is one of those that supports the Community Services Card and is subsidised by the Govt. It is a group practice she is with in Taupo.

1120044 2010-07-19 06:03:00 Couldn't agree more.
I had a plate made last year with 2 teeth on it, cost $650.
:)

I take it was made of plastic, the metal one I am getting with 3 teeth is $1200 and price ranged from $1800 for the same thing.

Bur as the silly bugger Roscoe says,we have to pay for their education.

1120046 2010-07-19 06:37:00 Yeah plastic one. Just as a word of caution, the blood in your jaw is the purest in your body and comes directly from your heart. You can risk getting an infection in it from rotting and diseased teeth etc.

1120047 2010-07-19 06:47:00 Sooner or later I'll get em all ripped out and replaced with some new ones.

And how much do you think that is going to cost? Falsies dentists charge like a wounded bull too, and they don't last forever either. ;)

1120049 2010-07-19 06:50:00 Went to dentist,they charged $90 for inspection and Cray,then $191 for one filling and a simple one too,took 15 mins..

Do we agree that was a rip off.

And while we are at it some medical specialist are ripping us off too,Gynaecologist I know collects 1.4 mill a year.

That don't seem right to me,what say you lot?

I hear you, but it is unsunsidised, and it is probably a reasonable fee. Many of the best dentists actually go overseas to OZ and europe where they can make a heck of a lot more.
