They were all very friendly in those days - surf music was fairly non-competitive at that time and the big corporations hadn't really sunk their fangs into it yet . |

I couldn't live that way. 2.91/1.18 MBPS ADSL is slow for me - which it is right now - but the shops in town are still open and just getting around to making their banking entries and such on the same pipeline on which I am running at the mo. In the morning/evening I can get pretty much DSL speeds of 3.2 both ways. |

| 1119184 | 2010-07-16 06:46:00 | Some day i'm going to win lotto and buy my own dedicated Gigabit fiber cable so I dont have to deal with 2mb/s down and 100kb/s up I'm fortunate that I could get satellite here . The phone service (Verizon) says that they have DSL - but the nearest D-Slam is 58 miles away! Uh huh! The dial-up speed they offered was 26kbps/8kbps for only $69 . 95/mo plus the standard phone bill charges . I could send smoke signals faster than that . Latest Speed test in attachment . It's pretty quick tonight - but the internet is very busy since all the telephones are out for the fires and the flooding . Our phones have been dead since about 6PM and it's now 10:36PM . The city I used to live in, Hemet is under mandatory fire/flooding evacuation right now . There are major fires ringing it and they don't have much chance of containing them in the next few days or so . You'd think the rain would put the fires out - but it ain't working that way . We had winds and hail - winds over 85 MPH that tore out trees and downed power and phone lines, but the satellite is still up, so I am online OK . Our trees here are all OK, but there was a lot or rain for a couple of hours . The fruit is still hanging onto the trees too - thankfully! I think we lost our tomatoes though . |

Of course, youse guys know that I speak the Queen's English - or can, anyway . |

| 1119187 | 2010-07-16 20:24:00 | Well - it's nice to have the internet today - the phones are still down and there's no window for the repair time yet. My wife is going through withdrawal without the dial tone and her ear may even heal up if the phones stay dead for a prolonged period of time. I think Verizon has forgotten that they have about 9,000 customers here in Anza. I can say 9000 because everyone in the area has the same 951-763-xxxx Area Code and Prefix. It's kinda neat when someone asks you your number and you only have to say the last four digits - everybody knows the rest of the numbers are the same as theirs. |
