1120030 2010-07-19 03:44:00 Went to dentist,they charged $90 for inspection and Cray,then $191 for one filling and a simple one too,took 15 mins..

Do we agree that was a rip off.

And while we are at it some medical specialist are ripping us off too,Gynaecologist I know collects 1.4 mill a year.

That don't seem right to me,what say you lot?

1120031 2010-07-19 03:50:00 Well . . . . . graduating from dental school probably puts you in the hole to the tune of $300,000 - $400,000 from the get-go .

Then, if you wish to establish a practice, x-ray machines are around $250,000, oil-less compressors for drilling etc are around $60,000, plus all the surgical tools, which are extortionist in their pricing . . . . I suspect the list goes on and on . . .

My dentist charges about the same, and I suspect if she didn't, she wouldn't be there .

1120032 2010-07-19 03:52:00 Although it seems expensive, so is running a practise. Dental Assistants, receptionist, lease on the consulting rooms, consumables and capex on chairs and x-ray machines etc is huge! Not to mention the seven or so years they spend getting qualified.

The alternative is to have your teeth rot out. Not pleasant for you or your close friends...

As for the Gynae and $1.4 mill, unfortunately the skirts he has to look up aren't all worn by good-looking 20-somethings....

If I had to look up skirts for a living, I would expect to be very well compensated! :D

EDIT: Snap!

1120034 2010-07-19 04:09:00 We are currently considering shifting from our ChCh dentist to one closer to home. Is this dentist in the Hub of North Canterbury, Cicero? BTW, those prices sound similar to the costs for the last time I had dental work done by our current dentist in ChCh. John H (8)

1120036 2010-07-19 04:19:00 There is a hell of a difference between dentists here.
Dentist I used has old house, old gear, and he is old charges,$125 for filling. He had waiting list for 6 weeks so I went to Blockhouse Bay Dental real flash digital xray photies .
Heaps of flash new machines that go pingggggggggg filling cost $300 so yr 191 was el cheapo.
The cheap price dentist filling was mercury, expensive priced dentist filling was some plastic stuff so go figure.
Your $191 not so bad.

Ah, thank you. Our dentist is in Elmwood, and we are considering moving to a Rangiora (or Kaiapoi) dentist. I assume that prices may be cheaper out here, as well as saving on mileage.

Thats my plan, Luckily it hurts like the devil, its ugly, and it takes a long time.However...it is cheap.

Sooner or later I'll get em all ripped out and replaced with some new ones.
