1121583 2010-07-23 02:19:00 I'm thinking of using my days off to go travelling around NZ at some stage this year. Probably just road trip in any direction different town each time.

Any cool little quirky places left that noone really goes to? Or have they pretty much been like Raglan and been developed so much it's not really the same 'small surf town' anymore?

I'm not a surfy either, just got the urge to throw the guitar in the back and go cruising on my days off.

1121584 2010-07-23 02:21:00 Just go to the extremities of the island, follow the coast. Metla (12)
1121585 2010-07-23 02:22:00 Not a bad idea that. rob_on_guitar (4196)
1121586 2010-07-23 02:25:00 And do it on a motorbike, The journey is far far far better when your actually in the environment your visiting rather then cut off from it by a car. And people on the road gravitate together, You would be blown away by some of the places I have ended up and people I have met on road trips. Metla (12)
1121587 2010-07-23 02:26:00 Actually, people on bikes just need to mention their plans on Kiwibiker and others volunteer accommodation and places to visit, road trips in their local area, and in many cases meet up with the person the road.

Quite bizarre,

1121589 2010-07-23 03:13:00 I would suggest Karamea (naturally).

But might take a few days from your place.
Beware, those who visit often end up staying longer than they planned(15 years in my case :D)

1121590 2010-07-23 03:31:00 Many people go to the Waitomo Caves, which is good, particularly for viewing the thousands of gloworms.

If you do go Waitomo way make certain that you go to the Ruakuri Caves. The guided tour is sooo much better than the Waitomo Caves. You need to book and their van will pick you up from the camping ground or wherever.

Ruakuri Caves tour is highly recommended.:clap

1121591 2010-07-23 04:16:00 r o g, I was a "pig islander" originally.

The bottom half of the South Island is great, watch the cows if you go by bike hto.

1121592 2010-07-23 04:18:00 Been out Waitomo ways alot, my baby girls mum & family stay out there. I might go extreme North and work my way down one side and return up the other.
Looking at using up some AL before work decides to take it off me.

I won't go by bike, to hard to carry guitar gear lol
But I will have to put some planning into it for what I want to do I think. Might make a photo log/blog or something. Pace it out so I do it bit by bit, just started a separate bank account to put money aside for it.
