1121040 2010-07-21 21:15:00 2Degrees has switched on the 3G, mine is working just fine. I expect to churn through the bytes at a furious rate until the novelty of it all wears off.
It is nice to finally arrive in 2010 :thanks

1121041 2010-07-21 22:43:00 Interesting - appears to be only 2100 mHz. Just a single frequency. They must be going to have a LOT of cell towers.... johcar (6283)
1121042 2010-07-21 23:07:00 Is it every where yet? Because my two phones only show 2G, and GPRS nedkelly (9059)
1121043 2010-07-21 23:10:00 If they're only rolling out 2100, you'll have to be close to a cellsite to get 3G.

Apparently they've only rolled out in R2x1's neck of the woods (north of the Bridge) and not to Westies yet...

1121047 2010-07-22 00:05:00 Interesting - appears to be only 2100 mHz. Just a single frequency. They must be going to have a LOT of cell towers....I just called them - apparently their system will roam to Vodafone's 3g (2100MHz & 900MHz) when their own is unavailable. While still not as good as XT, it should at least mean coverage on a par with what Vodafone provides. Erayd (23)
1121048 2010-07-22 00:10:00 How far north of the bridge?

I could tell you, but then I'd have to kill you (before R2x1 got to me!)...

Suffice it to say, not very far north...

1121049 2010-07-23 00:42:00 A long way if you're walking, a fair way on a bike and variable according to traffic if you're driving/queuing. Laughably close if you are on the phone, and outa sight if you are a telecom victim. (maybe better with xt, who knows, who cares?)
Fortunately it is all prepay, so no chance of ludicrous bills accruing. (When video calling a Dragon across the room, fiscal prudence is not really a consideration.)
So far, 3g has been solid between Birkenhead and old Albany (South). Haven't tried any where else.
3 G doesn't seem any faster TBH, still takes me an age to type a txt. Maybe I should get a bigger battery. ;)
