2010-07-21 11:05:00 | Little brother knocked my new 1.5TB HDD off the desk and rooted it. Not concerned about the data on it because I can get it back but more just pissed off at his lack of attention and clumsiness. When I plug it in it isn't recognized by the PC and I can hear it clunking and churning. I presume I can't do anything to fix it and it's well and truly busted?

2010-07-21 12:43:00 | If it's clunking, it's junk - ie, physically damaged and unusable. Data can likely still be recovered by a data recovery company, but you're not interested in that as you say.

2010-07-21 21:05:00 | can't you take it back to the store?Damage caused by misuse is not covered under any warranty. IF they didn't bother looking for any damage it may slip through, but at some stage there may be evidence of physical damage caused by it being dropped. (even by accident)

2010-07-21 23:10:00 | That's why I have all my drives inside the computer, they can't fall anywhere. Physical shock + clunking sounds to me like head damage.

I suspect I would have to drag it over there and push it out rather than throw it... :p Similar to what darkstar09 would probably like to inflict on his little brother!! :D  |
