1122053 2010-07-26 04:09:00 Enough with the medical stories.
Husband met a friend the other day, he's in his early 60's. He has lung cancer.
No he never smoked. Now you'll all say it was his wife or something, never had one of those either and didn't work in an industry known for polluting problems.
We get diseases and die anyway you know, it's inevitable.

And you can't nag someone into giving up either, like I said before, has to happen in their head first.

You could have a bit more sympathy - it is addictive you know.

1122054 2010-07-26 04:32:00 Whether you want to admit it or not, sadly, cigarettes are one of the most dangerous drugs that you will ever come across :(

The only way you will ever stop the habit, is if you are mentally ready to stop.

All the patches, gums and other aids are useless.

Ten years ago, I was a 25+ a day man.

One day I said to my wife that I wanted to buy a new PC. She said: "Fine, but you can't touch capital".

That got me thinking. At the time, my drugs of choice were costing me $10 a packet. $70 a week, $300 a month, $3650 a year :)

"Bugger it" I said to myself, "I want a new computer and the only way I can do it is to stop smoking".

So started my journey/new life style.

The only person that I was going to cheat if I smoked was me. No one else!

From that day, 30 November 2000, I have not smoked a puff. I went complete cold turkey overnight.

Was it hard? Hell yes.

Do I regret it? No way.

The cure is in your hands (mind) :) :) :)

Good Luck. You can do it.

Thats so correct you have to want to stop.
Sure it addictive but if really want to stop smoking you just stop cold turkey any other way is waste of time. Even towel henare has quit so anyone could could I remember seeing a dom photo of him having a smoke jogging back from rugby practice.
The nicotine only lasts 3 days in the body and the chemical addiction is gone.

1122055 2010-07-26 05:38:00 Smoking at least gives you a bit of a choice as to how you die, non-smokers just have to hope they go from something fashionable. (Sorry Cicero; even enrolling your whole family AND the pets as life-time paid up Key-o-phants will not give immortality (might stop you getting tanked though ;) )).

Personally, having a vicious Dragon snarling at you helps, but (over)spending the saved money as fast as possible on toys is good reinforcement. :devil

1122058 2010-07-26 07:37:00 This forum had a similar thread a year or so ago, and I admitted then to having had a habit of 90 a day (yes, 90)!

NINETY A DAY, [edited]:horrified

I thought my 75 a day at on point, was bad.

1122061 2010-07-26 09:58:00 I guess I should clarify a bit. The only reason I'm trying to quit, is because I can't afford it. If I had the cash flow, I'd happily puff to my grave. But nope, not with the hours I get at work.

There. ()___)_________)~~

Thanks Jen, sorry to put you to the extra work. Now I know what to do - although, this ls the first time in five year's membership I've ever felt the need to ask for this action. Thank you and: Cheers
