1167220 2011-01-06 06:45:00 Mine doesn't work like that. See my reply to Snorkbox. I can't get to see "run as administrator".I managed to run sfc /scannow but unfortunately it didn't find any integrity violations. Was worth a try though and I appreciate you trying to sort it for me.
I missread Snorkbox instructions also. Put it down to old age!!

1167221 2011-01-06 07:26:00 Could you please post a HijackThis log?
It seems that some programs with context menu entries are causing this.

Known ones include PowerISO, a-squared Free and CompareIt!.

1167223 2011-01-06 08:32:00 I suspect the problem is Acronis.

In post number 2 you said
I had Acronis True Image installed and uninstalled it using "Revo Uninstaller" You have not removed it fully, or by the looks of at all.

Look through the Hijack log, there is acronis true image all through it.

When you ran Revo, did you use the advanced mode -- looks like its still there and possibly could be causing a problem.

Without knowing if Backup & Restore was working previously, its a bit awkward to tell if Acronis is actually causing the problem or Not.

Do you suggest I try Revo again.? I presume there is also an uninstall in Acronis, should I use this instead of Revo.?
Pato (2463)
1167225 2011-01-06 09:35:00 Have a look with Revo again, it may or may not show up.

Revo does it several ways - if you simply run the uninstall, any program, Revo will run the programs uninstaller ( nothing more). Some programs come up saying you need to reboot to finish removal -- YOU DONT -- you cancel it then If you use the advanced mode, click next, it will really dig in deep, removing all folders and reg keys that some programs dont uninstall automatically.

Pays to make a restore point first, as the advanced mode will dig into the reg and remove keys - Personally I have never had revo stuff up the reg - but theres always a first time. :D

IF Revo doesn't see Acronis, look in the programs and features and see if its there ( it shouldn't be). In the past when a customer has mucked up removing a program, OR a program becomes damaged and cant be removed, I have had to reinstall the program, then remove it using revo.

ailing that - I have had to manually remove the program from the program files as well as manually remove the reg keys ------ nortons for example :waughh: There are over 100 Keys to locate and remove.:waughh:

Do you still have the original install File / CD for Acronis in case you need to reinstall it ?

As mentioned before -- Its only a guess that Acronis is the problem esp not knowing if the Backup and Restore was working previously or not ?????
