1166575 2011-01-03 02:04:00 You have a fair amount running in the background which could be only used when necessary like Google update for instance.

Yes, I agree, but I've through it and don't know what else to take out. I'm thinking it's all required "stuff"...

1166576 2011-01-03 02:24:00 Well, I can see a lot of AV and protection stuff that will most likely be running most of the time.

I guess you want an easy an hassle free way of freeing stuff up, so try soluto from www.soluto.com It only does stuff that runs on startup but that should do something for you.

1166577 2011-01-03 02:37:00 It's a Celeron, and 325MHz - both kinda low-spec features.

If you intend to keep it OFFLINE, then ditch all the protection features - firewall, Antivirus etc.
Lower the resolution, have a plain, solid colour background instead of a wallpaper.
Set the Desktop theme to Windows Classic.
If it has any USB, it's likely to be USB1, so patience is called for!

Er.......cpu is 2.8GHz

It was said that XP was re-installed, but a great heap of 'crap' also seems to have been added, much of which does not need to be running except when needed.

There also appears to be 2 firewalls, Commodo and PC Tools FW ?

Things like Java update, jusched.exe dont need to be running, you can manually update from time to time.

Tclock seems unecessary, internet synch is built into XP.

IOBIT software can be suspect, I wouldn't have Smartdefrag running all the time, not needed. It could well slow things down. In fact I'd dump it.

Get rid of all updaters like Google update

The list goes on, not really surprising the PC is slow, it is trying to do a lot behind your back.

Edit:When you install programs the golden rule is never accept the default settings, use custom settings and uncheck all the crap and phone home stuff, sys. tray, quick launch s/cuts toolbars etc that they try to foist on the unsuspecting :)
