| 1122023 | 2010-07-24 21:54:00 | I oten question people who tell me they've quit in order to determine their strategy and/or their difficulties. Just as others have said, it requires a determination of mind first. With that resolve it apparently is remarkably easy. Getting that right frame of mind however is not something you can just wish into existence. The approach of 'this next fag is my last fag' is already a losers approach to the problem. If you're gonna quit, then you need to start with the attitude of 'that last fag was my last fag' and not be a pussy by allowing yourself just one more. Help yourself a bit further by screwing up and throwing out ALL smoking paraphenalia at the same time. Get rid of all the rolly paper. Get rid of every single reserve stash (you all have them). Get rid of every ash tray. Take the ash tray and the lighter out of the car. Biff your lighters. The car, kitchen, living room, computer desk, shed and work are all probably harbouring smoking gear. You haven't even started until they are all free of gear. Make it too expensive and to awkward to start that one extra fag routine. While trying to guit is worthy of some small praise, but only succeeding is worth being proud of. Those that have shaken it tend to be unanimous in saying 'it stinks so badly' once they are clean. |

You will need to stop drinking bulk piss for around 6 months as well, Its easy when pissed as a chook to borrow a smoke. The worst case scenario is the I only smoke when I drink one because what you will do is drink so you can smoke. If you are a non drinker its so easy all you have to do is stop after 3 days the chemical addiction is gone. I offered an employee of mine $1500 to stop smoking for a year I think it was he lasted 2 hours caught him having smoke behind the compressor room. There is no hope for people this they deserve all the pain from coughing their lungs up with lung cancer. Quitline patches waste of time these people are still smoking timebombs and will start again because they never stopped smoking by themselves they had outside intervention you have to do it yourself and just ***** quit. |

It needs to be your decision, you need a good reason to stop and you need to do it when you are ready. No one else can decide for you. I had a good reason. I wanted to be able to tell my children not to smoke, but felt that I could not tell them not to smoke if I did. I had the reason, I made the decision and one day I finished that pack and stopped. One good reason to quit, I realised later, was that if you want to smell nice, don't smoke. I did not know that smokers STINK! Nowadays I can smell a smoker at 100 paces. So, best idea, as Prefect says, make a time and just stop. Don't spend time mucking about with patches etc. Just stop. |

| 1122028 | 2010-07-25 04:19:00 | Willpower! On 1st May 1990 I gave up after smoking a pack a day for 30 years. I gave my family and my staff permission to kick me in the backside if they saw me with a cigarette. First day was terrible, next two days pretty bad then it got easier. I haven't had even one puff of a cigarette in the twenty years since. Put on about two stone though! :) | Richard (739) | ||
| 1122029 | 2010-07-25 04:23:00 | Cold turkey worked for me. And I was a 50/day man. Also a threat of death from my Doctor as my body was pretty bad from the evil weed! Pipe, cigars and always tailormades ciggies. I took up photography and couldn't afford to smoke after that. The daily money I used to spend on fags went into a jar and paid for some pretty nice cameras and darkroom equipment over the years. Ken |

Was a bit hard at work (I work in a cafe, so it's not like I can be seen chewing gum all the time), but I managed to get through... just. So far, so good. Gotta get myself off the gum though... |

I was on the the gum for 10 weeks, then on to chewing gum, much easier to get off that, than fags. |
