| 1167713 | 2011-01-06 07:59:00 | Can anyone recommend a good backup software programme - I've updated my PC and have an external Seagate harddrive which I've been using by transferring folders via Windows Explorer. I had SynchSE free version (I think that's how it's spelt) on my last computer but wondered what the latest recommendations are re backing up my PC to the external harddrive. Many thanks, Jill |

| 1167714 | 2011-01-06 08:49:00 | The seagate software (provided with most drives now is quite good:www.seagate.com think thats it but not sure probably the FreeAgent Classic Go software) Can be tricky to use (sometimes) but still good. Vista (and probably win7) had built in backup features (I think it was for versions higher than pro). Western Digital has good software but that means (probably) buying a new HD. I personally find the quickest and most reliable way is to drag the contents of C: (or what ever drive) onto the external manually. This page may also help: forums.seagate.com |

| 1167715 | 2011-01-06 09:10:00 | If you're running Windows 7, the backup and restore function is actually really good. It can make system images of the OS and backup all your other files or you can just backup your files and leave the system image out. I've been running a weekly backup (to a 500GB external USB drive) for the last few months and I haven't had any issues with it. The restore process is pretty painless. Just make sure you create a System Repair disk, so that you can run the recovery procedure should things turn to custard. Hope that helps. Cheers, |
