1122509 2010-07-28 05:17:00 "a sign that few books were being written in Maori"

Possibly because only a tiny percentage of the population wants to read or speak maori ???

Hey, if there was a market for it, someone would be exploiting it!

I ROTFLMAO'd... :D

LOL...PMSL.

Te Reo is Dead, long may it rest in peace

1122510 2010-07-28 05:32:00 Perhaps if we were to look a the promotion of maori language week in a slightly different way (this set of observations is usually used to describe projects, especially those in the IT arena):

(substitute Te Reo for "horse")

1. Buying a stronger whip.
2. Changing riders.
3. Say things like, “This is the way we have always ridden this horse.”
4. Appointing a committee to study the horse.
5. Arranging to visit other sites to see how they ride dead horses.
6. Increasing the standards to ride dead horses.
7. Appointing a tiger team to revive the dead horse.
8. Creating a training session to increase our riding ability.
9. Comparing the state of dead horses in today’s environment.
10. Change the requirements declaring that “This horse is not dead.”
11. Hire contractors to ride the dead horse.
12. Harnessing several dead horses together for increased speed.
13. Declaring that “No horse is too dead to beat.”
14. Providing additional funding to increase the horse’s performance.
15. Do a Cost Analysis study to see if contractors can ride it cheaper.
16. Purchase a product to make dead horses run faster.
17. Declare the horse is “better, faster and cheaper” dead.
18. Form a quality circle to find uses for dead horses.
19. Revisit the performance requirements for horses.
20. Say this horse was procured with cost as an independent variable.
21. Promote the dead horse to a supervisory position.

Currently I believe we have in place the following items:

4, 7, 8, 10, 13, 14, 18 and aspects of various others....

1122511 2010-07-29 00:44:00 Years ago in the UK they went through the same exercise in Welsh -
Where the Welsh all that interested - not really.
They launched a Welsh Language only TV station - there are over 3 milion Welsh. Did the Welsh watch it in viable numbers? - not bloody likely - the programmes were slightly less interesting than watching paint dry.
Why cannot we learn from others mistakes?
If the indigenous populace don't want to support cultural efforts in their own language - don't waste the taxpayers money!

1122513 2010-07-29 05:02:00 Bureaucrats rule and that is it !!

That it's what its all about, a bunch of "Hairy legged Nanny Helens, hairy legged girls" and their funny mates. Shuffling papers around between tea and lunch breaks to justify their exorbitant salaries.

All at the real Taxpayers expence.

If key is realected, we may see a little Beuracracy trimming in his second term.

To be followed by a great bloating of the beuracrats as soon as "hairy legged lazy labour" manage to buy a return to power.
