1123785 2010-08-02 05:07:00 Am I the only one that doesn't use any ad blockers add ons. I use FF and don't get any pop ups, the pages load fast enough and I don't even really notice the ads, on Pf1 and GZ.

i don't really care about the ad blockers either but i just checked FF, blocking ads are by *default* :D

1123786 2010-08-02 06:05:00 If it bothers you so damn much get a subscription, if you want it free live with the ads: beggars can't be choosers buddy.

I don't use it enough to find value in a subscription.

I'm not your buddy, friend. ;)

1123787 2010-08-02 07:19:00 PC world totally underutilise these forums. As their readship numbers fall for their printed mag, they should really be turning this into more of a geekzone experience. robbyp (2751)
1123788 2010-08-02 07:32:00 I have no problem not using adblock on geekzone. definitely wouldn't pay for the service. The sub their ask for I think is a bit steep for what you get plod (107)
1123789 2010-08-02 07:40:00 GeekZone isn't alone.
http://arstechnica.com/ Is another site that expects members Not to use Ad blockers, it's part of the membership agreement.
Leave the ads on or lose the free to view sites, they have to pay the bills somehow.

But you still see ads on the page right? Correct me if I'm wrong but they only block the pop up ads?

I see the ads on the left (on mine). Yes but I think GZ is talking about pop ups right?

1123792 2010-08-02 11:37:00 I don't use an ad blocker - the only site on which I block ads (via CSS) is PressF1.

I have no problem in principle with advertising, and I like to support those sites who choose to use it. Unfortunately, PressF1's implementation is where I draw the line.

For those wishing to sanitise PressF1 a bit, the latest cleanup CSS can be found here (pressf1.co.nz), along with instructions for using it.

1123793 2010-08-02 12:58:00 Geekzone haven't got around to warning me yet. When they do it will be the last thing before they go on the blocked list. Like PCW magazine, they used to be interesting and useful.

For much the same reason I don't watch TV, the ads are apparently aimed at a group I would not want to be a member of.

1123794 2010-08-02 14:12:00 The silly thing is that for a site to get revenue from advertising, a user has to click on an ad. I can't remember when I last clicked on an internet ad... even when I wasn't using an adblocker.

No, a lot of ads give revenue by just being displayed.
