1122818 2010-07-27 19:32:00 If the cops carried guns people would respect them a bit more.

If they killed a couple of low lifes to get the message across that would be OK in my book.

A few judges need to be assaulted and robber first.

How can you teach respect in schools anymore - the cat is out of the bag.

No the crims would just get bigger guns. A gun is pretty useless if you are hit from behind. Sometimes common sense goes a long way.

1122819 2010-07-28 01:01:00 Maybe some people think all crooks are stupid, but they arent. If the cops pack guns the crooks will have to do the same for protection.
I wouldnt give a NZ policeman the time of day if he is openly displaying a pistol or rifle they can get ******.
Do we want to become like USA and Australia with shoot outs? do we ****.
The police in NZ have had an abysmal record for recklessly discharging firearms Waiatara and Western Springs for two off the top of my head.
The people who joined the police knew they wouldn't be conspicuouslly armed when they joined up if they dont like it they can PERF and we get some better person in their place.
Its so totally unfair I have guns but not allowed to use them for defence so why the hell should the fuzz have more rights than citizen me.

1122821 2010-07-28 04:11:00 Some times its more effective to just throw the Glock at the offender maybe more accurate. prefect (6291)

'Junior member forever' just about sums up your intellect then. Fighting crime is a battle, so why should we ask our Police to face guns and other lethal weapons empty handed?

You'd sing a different song if some evil bastard had a member of your family held with a gun at their head. And if it was your child, you be pleading on your knees for them to shoot the prlck.

Everybody want to go to heaven, but nobody wants to die.

1122823 2010-07-28 04:52:00 I have no problem with armed police. They must however be subject to the same laws as everyone else and very well trained. CliveM (6007)

No because if the cops shoot at the evil bastard his gun could go off as he is hit and shoot the kid. Sometimes there are better than plans than just shooting all and sundry.
Are pro arm the police people more cleverer than anti arm the police?
So big man someone disagrees with your point of view you feel the need to insult them.

I'll take note of your opinions when you personally are prepared to stand up and face an armed criminal, not knowing what state of mind he is in or what drugs are frying his brain while all the other big talkers are hiding behind trees waiting the "the law" to do something.

We've had enough Police killed in recent times to make arming them under appropriate circumstances the right thing to do. Yes, mistakes will happen from time to time, that is the human cost of keeping society safe for the majority, but it doesn't happen here very often at all and certainly not enough to justify an expectation that our Police face armed criminals unprotected and unable to take decisive action. Standing up and protecting citizens is not an easy task and very often thankless. Would YOU tke it on?

Brave talk is cheap, if you felt insulted, maybe it just hurt a little to have somebody disagree with you. Better that than a bullet.

billy,

they have enough acess to weapons, they dont need more, what was the point of all the fuss over tasers if your going to give them more guns.

In one of my contract jobs I regularly have contact with police late at night, in east auckland.

You get the responsible senior officers who do what they are supposed to do and lock the gun in the car before comming inside, unless it is needed.

Then you get the tools who get off on walking arond in public with a glock sticking out under their jacket tail when the walk in to order a hamburger at 3 am on a wednesday morning.

Untill all of those tool's are removed from the force, the force has too greate an access to firearms.
