1169703 2011-01-14 09:01:00 I bought the above laptop about four years ago and have used it very little as I also have a desktop PC. I won an iPad a few weeks ago and doubt I will ever use the laptop again, so I've decided to sell it.

It's in really good condition and I have a case and wireless mouse, and I realise it's not going to be worth a fraction of what I paid for it but I'd like some idea of what I can realistically expect to get for it. I've offered it to a friend who wants to buy one for her son and she's keen but wants to know what I want for it. I'd rather sell it to her than get $50 on Trade Me, but I don't know what price to give her.

I'm not wanting to rip her off, but I would like to get something for it! Any idea of a reasonable price to charge would be appreciated.

1169705 2011-01-14 09:30:00 Sorry, didn't think of the necessary bits!

Don't have the manual handy so assume it's the same as this I found online - gdgt.com/Compaq/Presario-a900/specs/

1169706 2011-01-14 09:39:00 Being four years old, can we assume its got XP on it -- If so what version , Home or Pro ? wainuitech (129)
1169707 2011-01-14 10:32:00 No, it's got Vista Home Premium. It was bought in the 2006/2007 tax year, so could have been early 2007. Just opened the laptop to check the specs in there and this is what it has listed:

Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Duo CPU T7250 @ 2.00GHz 2.00GHz
Memory (RAM): 2.00 GB
System type: 32-bit Operating System

Someone has one listed on Trade Me for $450 but there are no bids and I'd think that may be a bit optimistic.

1169708 2011-01-14 10:39:00 i would say anywhere between 200 to 400 bucks. ronyville (10611)
1169709 2011-01-14 11:11:00 That's about what I was tending towards too. After seeing the one for $450 on Trade Me with no bids, I figured it was probably realistically worth about $300 due to its excellent condition and the fact it's only ever been taken away from home once.

I bought it thinking I'd use it to work on away from my home office (like by the fire in winter and on the deck in summer!) but I didn't find it that portable and during the day the reflections when using it anywhere other than the office made it a pain. If the iPad had been available then, I doubt I would have bought the laptop. I'd never used one and if I had, perhaps I would have reconsidered my 'need' for one!

I'd just like it to go to a good home and I know this friend doesn't have a lot of disposable cash to buy a really good laptop for her son. I don't think this would be too shabby an option for her and at least then I would not have to deal with countless queries on TM asking if I'd take $50 for it!

1169710 2011-01-15 00:28:00 The battery, whether used or not, will be getting tired. $250 would be fairer. PENTIUM (426)
