1169676 2011-01-14 05:40:00 I would like a free DVD ripper so I can backup my DVDs. Anyone know of any good ones? HarKon (15926)
1169677 2011-01-14 06:04:00 As this subject can border on piracy it might get deleted by the moderators.

Try googling what you want, and include Fab as a keyword. It has sufficient free functions to do all you want and more, although a bit of a sod to learn how to find and use the free features.

1169679 2011-01-14 06:13:00 Well I do not intend on using it for anything but personal use. Thanks I found what I was looking for, there is a paid one which I could get if free does not do what I require. HarKon (15926)
1169680 2011-01-14 06:17:00 If you truly want to make backups you should spend some money...

Having said that, I made a "back up" yesterday of The Castle (the first "backup" I've ever done) to fill an empty 'The Castle' DVD case which we lost the DVD of. (It possibly went to the tip in a dud Philips player.) Daughter bought a new copy of The Castle as a gift for someone and I saw the chance...

So how did I copy it? I used my Probox PBR-500 media player which records component-in. My $1200 Sony DVD player did the playing. ($1200 is what I paid back in 1999. Ouch!)

I'm really pleased with the Probox

1169681 2011-01-14 07:00:00 I have used DVDShrink, it also works with Win7 32 bit.

Edit:It seems to prefer DVD -R disks, I had strife with DVD +R

1169685 2011-01-16 01:11:00 Incidentally the paid version of DVDFab includes conversion software (DVD to Mobile) so you can put your own DVDs onto a mobile device through iTunes or w/e software you use, and DVD to File to back-up onto your computer, so I rate it highly for ease of use.
I believe in New Zealand you are entitled to rip your own DVDs into any format as long as it is only for your own personal use. The principle is you have the right to watch what you've paid for however you want.
