1169461 2011-01-13 04:22:00 I have an asus a8n5x motherboard which has been working fine for 3 or 4 years. Recently it has not been turning on when the front power button is pressed. It will then randomly start up some time later. Less often it will randomly shut down. I have tried shorting the power pins directly, to check for a stuffed switch, but still no go. What do I look at next? Running XP. wotz (335)

1169465 2011-01-13 06:26:00 Yeah; We were discussing this in class today.

Could be that your PSU is sufficent until a certain component is used - graphics card for instance and then its insufficent and kills the whole machine.

I'd recommend borrowing a mates PSU(that you know is working) and trying it out for a few days and see if this still happens. If it does'nt you have your problem. If it does report back to us.

Make sure the PSU specifications meet your requirements.

- And I'd suggest you do this ASAP otherwise you risk your powersupply Killing itself and taking other things (such a processor, motherboard and harddrive) with it.

1169466 2011-01-13 06:38:00 There is power to the mb. There is an LED on it lighting up. That means nothing apart from its partly working -- Take the advice of PCT Joe  Even if its to eliminate the power Supply.

Also have a look at the CAPS, look to see if any are leaking or bulging.Example (www.google.co.nz Disch:1%26prmd%3Divns)

1169468 2011-01-13 09:37:00 I'd suspect the PSU first, motherboard second. Agent_24 (57)
