HATE is such a strong word - but maybe not strong enuff for what I feel was a total twit and sexist slob with a TV show . Hill and Cleese are lightyears apart in class and substance . Where Hill was just nasty and perverted, Cleese was the epitome of external cool, internally boiling and seething with emotion . The only emotions I got from Hill - besides my own technicolor retching - was disgust and anger for his treatment of women . Something in your last sentence makes me wince - (the part right after the question mark, the part that I underscored) . Poor Britain - the land of Chaucer, Shakespeare and --- well, I can't think of anyone else of note at the moment . I still like most of your musical choices though . |

You are a sophisticated man of cultural discernment and learned discourse after all . I totally agree with your comments :D For this, we should award you Honorary Australian Citizenship . (Possibly after taking off a few more of the edges, refinement in the ways of the more cultured Kiwis, you may advance to Honorary Kiwi Citizenship . ) :devil |

What you have said is complete bull s.h.i.t. you really need to do some research and watch a few benny hill documentarys. He did not treat women bad, the show is not sexist, and if it is, it is sexist against men, if you actually watched it, its normally benny doing something to a women by complete accident and then him getting chased angrilly by them at the end of the show. If you did your research and watched a few doco's, you would know that benny hill treated women (off screen) with respect and treated them like gods, he would do anything for them. Yes Benny Hill Show was more successful than any other british comedy, yes even more successfull than monty python. I see you are praising John Cleese, though i love his work and find him hilarious, you have to look at his work. for example, Monty Python's Flying Circus, that show was more rude and sexist than benny hill has ever been. python had girls running away in slow motion naked while cleese sits at a desk saying "And now for something completely different". Python is also far more voilent, for example the "Salad Days" sketch with blood and peoples hands a body parts being cut off. Monty Python got away with all of this stuff because they were Cambridge/Oxford educated. they were also made by radio. Benny Hill was the first of his kind, he was made by tv. His BBC Shows (1951 - 1968) were(and still are) praised as being the first programme to parody television as a medium, he was the first to parody adverts, the first to use loads of techniques such as Split Screen. In the 50's and 60's, Benny Hill's show was loved by all, the mother, the father, the children, it was a family show. Its Because of his naughtier shows when he moved to Thames Television (19 Novemeber 1969 - 1 May 1989) that have given him a bad reputation, epspecially his 1981 to 1983 shows which are the most rude. Benny was never rasist or offence to cultures. I think you're forgetting the most racist and offencive and bizzare show to come from british comedy "Q" by spike milligan, this show made huge use of naked women with big breasts, making rasist jokes to black people, lesbian jokes, sketches about sex maniacs etc... And what about the comedy shows these days, they are ruder and more offencive that ever constantly swearing, saying f u c k etc... You Need To Re assess your attitude towards Benny Hill. Also John Cleese and python stole the structure of their show from Spike Milligan, and in my opinion, failed. not to say python is bad, as i love it, its just Milligan did it first and better. Benny Hill has been on TV in NY over 47 times. its been seen in over 120 countrys, its constanly repeated in aussie and new zealand gets it repeated every 5 years (python has never been repeated to my knowledge) |
