Listen to that guitar playing . . . . magnificent!!!

Ken

I used to go see Jose in NYC in about 1960 or so . He had his dog and first wife there and he talked to the audience between songs . I'd talk with him and we'd get a nice conversation going .

Fast forward to when we moved in 1962 1/2 to Huntington Beach, California and I took a date to a coffee house called "The Prison Of Socrates" in Newport Beach . ( . timmorgon . com/carrol . htm" target="_blank">www . timmorgon . com)

I didn't even know Jose was on the bill as I was just having a good time with my date, Sherry-Anne .

Anyway - we were talking to each other and Jose walked over to our little round coffee-house table and asked me: "What are you doing here? The last time we talked you lived in New Jersey and I was playing in 'The Suffering Bastard" (long gone) on Bleeker Street ( . wikipedia . org/wiki/Bleecker_Street" target="_blank">en . wikipedia . org)" .

Sherry-Anne was ga-ga impressed and Jose and I took up our conversation from years past .

I've tried to stay in touch with him over the years - even ate at his restaurant in Newport/Mesa quite a few times and have always thought that he was one of the really great guitarists with feelings in the world .

1124924 2010-08-13 10:24:00 Lunchtime 6th October 1962 sitting in a pub in Park Row Bristol waiting for a Scouser called Steve Gartlan who had recently finished his field work in Africa and come to Bristol Uni. to finish his Ph.D.
He arrived late cursing Bristol record shops because he hadn't been able to find a copy of The Beatles first UK single Love Me Do/I Love You released the previous day.
We didn't know what the flip he was talking about.

1124928 2010-08-14 15:22:00 I had a pen-pal living in Wandsworth SW18 London, England and she told me all about the Beatles weeks before they hit in the US .

When I told all my friends about them and their name, nobody believed me until a few days later and then they all asked me how I knew .

That was my 11th year of school and I was a high school Junior at the time .

The world changed that year .

1124929 2010-08-14 23:42:00 You want to watch the Abbey Road webcam. The road is fairly busy and the idiots are trying to get there photos taken by there friends walking across the crossing. Some of them freeze while the photo is being taken and impatient drivers start tooting there horns.
