| 1169162 | 2011-01-14 22:38:00 | Steam checks your ownership of whatever titles you install, so piracy is difficult, possibly even near impossible . There are cracked games everywhere, most won't give you full multiplayer functionality but it does work . All the boys download cracked portable games, get them on a portable HDD and play them at uni . . . Yes . I hate it . Meant to stop piracy which of course it doesn't . Especiually irritating is the forced update . Hey, I'LL decide if I want the update or not! Not to mention the fact that most servers don't update at the same time as the games, so you won't be able to play the games till said servers update . Not fun . It took me two days trying to figure out how to buy a damned game on Steam, it wouldn't change my email address, I tried and tried on their website no avail, AND IT DOES NOT BLOODY WORK . Works through the Steam client though, still not cool . The client can't backup properly and sometimes even copying the files will break games when Steam decides to sync . . . Steam crashes frequently during steam updates . . . It's bloated enough, it's using 115 . 2MB of memory right now (while not doing anything), which is quite frankly unacceptable . I don't mind the concept of Steam, but the implementation is crappy . . . However, for those of us in places like NZ where broadband usage is still metered for most people, it is a pain to not know BEFORE buying a game how big the download will be . Not too sure about that . . . AFAIK, there are local Steam mirrors, and most of us have free NZ traffic, so it's not a big deal . Can someone else confirm this? |

It is a kind of clever idea for fools for the purpose of convenience and updates being installed without the user having to think. But it IS definitely crappy to the extreme. And the only time I would ever agree to its existence is if it was OPTIONAL. - And it isn't, unless you pirate. |

Slingshot contains far more content (2/3) and pretty much allows for most games to be downloaded locally at full speed. Xnet will likely change between here and Australia. Also for people complaining about needing Steam to play you may as well give up as most games are requiring internet to play to counter piracy (a losing battle may I add that only pisses off real gamers). AWESOME. Im with xnet, Yay free data. |
