2010-08-06 01:32:00 | Ummm.... because, you're consuming the content? If it's so useless, then why waste time pirating it? If it's worth pirating, then why not pay for it? I meant, why pay for it if they screw up the aspect ratio etc, especially if it were possible to download it in the correct ratio for free..

2010-08-07 07:43:00 | Have experienced the same watching the poker, halfway through the programme it came right with no input from me, so definitley seems to be the broadcast. | rny (6943) | |
2010-08-08 03:12:00 | I wrote to ESPN a while back about why we get the 4:3 feed in New Zealand but it appears impossible to get past their Customer Service people who don't seem authorised to provide an answer to any question. ESPN have been butchering the Champions League coverage for years, not only because it is in 4:3 but also because the quality of the signal is vastly inferior to any other football match broadcast from anywhere else in the world. Add to that they have an awful commentary team (who rarely seem to be at the games) and you pretty much couldn't do a much worse job of sports broadcasting. Then one day I was watching a game of Lacrosse and the commentator referred to some action that was clearly off screen as "those of you on our wide screen would have seen that". What I took from that is that ESPN pump out a very average 4:3 version of their product, but clearly you can upgrade this to a quality wide screen versions in some countries (I presume we were on the US versus International version for the Lacrosse) I've even watched a bit of poker as well although it is still more watchable than trying to watch the Champions League final. Not sure why Sky (or Telstra Clear in my case) can't get access to the quality version of the feed, but it clearly does exist. Bars and Clubs often fit the 4:3 to their wide screen TV's by cutting off the top and bottom, but that makes it even worse, you're zoomed in on only the central part of the picture.

2010-08-09 12:15:00 | Mate of mine works for Sky. They get high quality feeds of some programs, but apparently ESPN are absolute ********s and won't let them broadcast them. They're actually working pretty hard on this to try and get it sorted. | roddy_boy (4115) | |

They're actually working pretty hard on this to try and get it sorted. They're going to have to work pretty hard on it, and also promote it when they have it fixed. I've moved on and get my poker elsewhere now..... |

2010-08-11 03:25:00 | Little bit off subject, but MTV is in widescreen as of a few days ago, so now some of the worst programming and music on Sky is properly viewable...still no discovery or ESPN... c'mon Sky. | wratterus (105) | |
