1169771 2011-01-14 23:33:00 An ISO image is just that - an image - of a CD or DVD.

It contains the contents of a disc all in one file.

You need to burn it to your disc with a program that can handle it correctly. Windows XP does not have the ability to do so natively.

ImgBurn is a very good one that I use, and will burn many types of CD\DVD images (as well as create them and do other things)

download "imgburn", install it and use that to burn the iso file to disc.

edit: as Agent said while i was typing.

1169773 2011-01-14 23:40:00 Windows XP doesnt have the ability to burn ISOs, you'll need something like Nero (you'll have this if you've ever bought a new cd/dvd drive), or Imgburn

Edit: likewise :)

1169775 2011-01-14 23:56:00 Do you have an image of your XP install, or recovery disc/s (or recovery partition) so you can reinstall it, if the Linux install goes haywire or you decide it's not for you? feersumendjinn (64)

Yes I have the disks and only did a fresh format recovery a few weeks ago. Just needs more Ram, but no finances to cover that, at present.

Just make sure you select Xubuntu and not Ubuntu when the installer starts... Ubuntu will not be happy with the amount of RAM you have.

1169780 2011-01-15 01:23:00 Actually I would recommend Lubuntu as it uses less RAM than Xubuntu. Agent_24 (57)
