1168957 2011-01-12 01:56:00 It's not dropping out with sleep mode is it? If you want to use sleep mode, set the USB jumpers to 5VSB.

I recently found my USB card reader gave problems using the front socket but was OK on a back one. Power issue there.

Good luck.

Solution was a good one.

I instead used a 30cm cord rather 5 metres and just set it up in a spot I get 3/5 bars. It's 3mb/s and I can deal with that. Also don't have to use extra power.

Thanks for your help and advice though everyone.

Alternatively you could get a USB WiFi adaptor with an external antenna jack and extend the antenna on the end of some coax instead of extending the USB cable itself.

1168959 2011-01-12 09:39:00 My USB WIFI adapter is 7 metres from my PC. I'm using one of these: 5m USB active extension cable (www.elive.co.nz) + another normal 2m USB extension cable. I've also made a "wokfi" parabola booster (see here: http://www.usbwifi.orconhosting.net.nz/). In testing the wokfi booster improves the signal by around 7%. I get 90%+ signal strength consistently from the wifi hotspot router which is about 100m from me. Rod J (451)

1168961 2011-01-12 10:13:00 :p LOL ... no, I live in a caravan park and the hotspot is part of the amenities here. This is my ISP's site: http://www.internetaccesscompany.co.nz/ Rod J (451)
