1124892 2010-08-05 23:08:00 I was 5 ... two older brothers by 10 & 12 years ... 1 sister by 8. Sister went out to Dunedin airport when the Beatles came here and was on the TV screaming & crying trying to rip the security fence out of the ground.

Many great party's during the mid to late 60's and think that's why I still love the music from that era ... no auto-tune or having to get 1/2 naked to hide the fact that most modern "singers" can't really sing ... Pink being the exception! :drool

Smokin' Joe ... Opps ... meant Surfer Joe was that around the time you were first diagnosed with glaucoma, or was that closer to Woodstock time ???

1124893 2010-08-05 23:56:00 Living with my father, and still at High School. I first remember hearing them whilst out nassella tussock grubbing in North Canterbury... Someone had a tranny (which meant transistor radio in those days, not what it means now).

I won a Beatles look alike competition at a ChCh dance in 1964...

Ha! Sadly I don't have one from that night, and current photos lack hair on top of the head - the defining quality of Beatlehood at the time. My hair has mostly migrated south to my face, and I am now 'blonde' instead of dark. Other things have migrated south as well, such as my chest - but SWMBO says she still loves me, and she still needs me now I am 64+...

PS one of the first things Herself and I did together was to go to see the Beatles films. We have been together since just after I won the Beatles look alike contest in 1964, bless her.

It was 41 years +10 days from now when Woodstock started. It was August 15-19, 1969 and I was 23 y/o.

Actually I was a 'Juicer' - or I would drink an occasional alcoholic beverage in those years - still do as a matter of fact. I was such a weak kitten drinker that half a can of beer had me crawlin' on the floor biting people on their ankles. Yeah! I did that a few times.

Then I'd barf. A lot.

Nowadays I can hold my own - sorta. Now I like Scotch - GOOD Scotch. Single-malted Scotch.

I usta could throw the cheapest drunk of anyone I've ever known. I mean - what does 1/2 a can of beer actually cost?

Why would I spend money on pot or acid if I could take that cheap of a flight?

Having said that - I really never was interested in pot. I was around it all the time and it never bothered me at all. I never thought it was bad - I was really ambivalent to it.

Remember 'Mellow Yellow'? That was supposed to be either dried, shredded banana peels, smoked in Zig-Zag papers or it was Saffron and Sweet Basil leaves, the same way.

It was neither.

LSD really scared the Barjesuz outta me as I knew a couple of guys who thought they had died in a plane crash and were living now as invisible ghosts.

Unfortunately they still had to eat and they couldn't explain nor understand that. They contemplated their navels a lot after just a few more trips.

One other friend to this day still sees moving bushes and phone poles dance at midnight when the domestic animals speak the Queen's English and can light their own candles. I have never found out where dogs and cats hide their matches.

Most times I was playin' bass or trombone in the band where I had rented a triplex apartment in Newport Beach for the three months of Summer overlapping Easter.

It was called: "Bal-Week" when the schools rotated their vacation times so the students wouldn't completely overwhelm the local beach town constabulary.

I however missed Woodstock since I already was in the Navy by December 1968 - right after I had gotten married that previous February.

My sister - had an album by Richard Harris called 'A Tramp Shining' that was the be-all/end-all for music until she heard the Beatles.

She talked my mom into buying her tickets to see them in Dodger Stadium, LA on August 28th, 1966. She was a big fan ever after.

I still have those ticket stubs (don't tell her) and I will hold them for her if she ever quits doing what she's doing now. (Family secret)

Funny thing - I have in my bedroom right here behind me, with the amplifiers and guitars that I own - MORE TOTAL WATTAGE than The Beatles had in that concert!

No wonder it took so long - you've been spelling it wrong!

1124901 2010-08-06 03:32:00 (snip) LSD really scared the Barjesuz outta me as I knew a couple of guys who thought they had died in a plane crash and were living now as invisible ghosts .

Unfortunately they still had to eat and they couldn't explain nor understand that . They contemplated their navels a lot after just a few more trips .

LSD more than scared the Bejesus out of me when I interviewed a man in the police cells after he had either had a bad trip or used too much . He had been on a mission to do something nasty to his father with a very large knife when he was arrested . I met him the following day, and he was certain he was doing the right thing . Never met anyone using any other drug that was so brain fried .

In NZ we had a bad time for a while because no-one could predict what kind of dose they were going to get . Paper, or gelatine sheets? were impregnated with LSD, and the sheets were hung up to dry . Gravity took over, and I suppose capillary action or something . If you got a tab off the top of the sheet, it might have been a very mild dose . Conversely if your tab came from the bottom of the sheet, KAZAM!
