1169793 2011-01-15 03:33:00 Hey all, my sisters ps2 ports on her computer haven't worked for sometime so have used usb keyboard and mouse.
Just the other day she had to move out her furniture to replace the carpet and on connecting the computer it is requesting to install the usb drivers for the keyboard and the mouse.
Can't reinstall windows due to not been able to access bios with usb keyboard to change bootup sequence.
Also can't seem to source a pci card with ps2 ports on it locally.. (new zealand)

HELP PLEASE!

The PS2 ports - are they completely dead ? As in wont even allow you to access the BIOS.

What sounds to have happened is the BIOS has changed, ( could be a flat CMOS Battery) - and the defaults have been put back. The USB keyboard support may not be enabled.

Something Like this here (www.computerstore.co.nz) or This one here (pbtech.co.nz) may work.

1169795 2011-01-15 06:51:00 I've also seen XP be silly about drivers simply when a different USB slot is used, necessitating that I installed the same drivers for each of the 5 possible USB slots that the end user may choose to plug into.
Maybe try moving each peripheral to a different USB slot and see if the Windows nonsense stops.

PS2 ports are completely dead and now you mention it the cmos battery is flat as the time changes regularly. Is there any other way to get into the bios??

1169797 2011-01-15 23:03:00 What may work is a Serial to PS2 converter Like this here (www.computerstore.co.nz) also This place has them (www.elive.co.nz)- of course you will have to have a serial port on the motherboard and the Keyboard must be serial compatible (able to accept it).
IF you do have a serial port, and can locate a Old Serial type KB, then that can be plugged in and enter the BIOS.

AFAIK - if you dont have working PS2 ports, OR have a serial port/ Compatible KB, then theres no way to enter the BIOS-- you have to be able to click something, and of course you will need arrow keys( direction) from the keyboard to navigate the menu.

What Board is it ?
