1169133 2011-01-12 08:02:00 my cheap/non-brand usb webcam (bought in 2007) won't work with win7 64bit....:(

it works well with win xp, vista, even 32bit version of win7 (according to mum :P)

when I plug it in, windows try to install driver from windows update--failed. I try to use the install driver from specific location option (the webcam came with mini CD with drivers on it), failed.....

I was told that you can just download a generic driver for such a non brand device, but I have been searching on the net for 40mins now, couldn't find one...:(

anyone know of such a driver?? or perhaps a way of making the webcam work with win 7 64bit?? I don't really want to get a new one because the old one is perfectly good, with 5 mega pixels and everything... :P

Thanks for the help in advance :D

1169134 2011-01-12 08:08:00 Kill UAC then see if the windowsupdate file will install. It must work somehow, otherwise it wouldnt be there. Go to its entry in device manager. Dbl click on it then go to the details tab / change it to hardware ID's. Highlight whats here / Ctrl-c to copy it, then ctrl-v to paste it here. If a driver appears in WU, what does it call it? Thanks speedy :D

I killed UAC, then try to get windows to look for driver update online again (that is what you mean right?) and it still can't find anything.

here is the hardware ID you asked for:

USB\VID_1B17&PID_6111&REV_0100
USB\VID_1B17&PID_6111

and what is WU??

1169136 2011-01-12 08:29:00 WU = Wndowsupdate. Does the cam look like this?? (www.comsiscomputer.com). If it does, it maybe a Frisby CAM-811 according to one site. And another site says, you maybe out of luck, there are no 64 bit drivers for it Speedy Gonzales (78)

I see....

and no, it doesn't even come close, my cam looks like a mini telescope...

so I guess I will have to buy a new cam then...for video chatting online, with skype, will this cam be sufficient? it is the cheapest I can find (off a good online store that I actually trust).

www.playtech.co.nz

what is the max resolution that skype video chat supports??

Thanks heaps again Speedy :D

1169138 2011-01-12 08:48:00 I have no idea what the max resolution is that skype supports

I would check the logitech site first to see if its got x64 drivers. Thats if you can find it

1169139 2011-01-12 09:42:00 That Logitech Cam does have 64 Bit Drivers -- Just the web page doesn't like Opera my opera. Page In IE8 (www.imagef1.net.nz)

Tried it in IE and FF and the driver page worked fine Drivers (www.logitech.com)
