| 1126636 | 2010-08-17 23:18:00 | Yes the snow was above the zigzags but perfect cramponing up to the pass itself. The sun was beating down and I have a reasonable tan meaning the snow was extremely soft on the way back down. Was able to see Mt Cook, the Copland shelter, Hooker glacier and Cook village, was even able to phone SWMBO. Sunday was the only dry sunny day though. There had been some big avalanches earlier in the week I think from looking at the debris and knowing that last weekend there had been a big dumping of snow down that way | gary67 (56) | ||

Friday left Nelson 6am arrive Copland carpark 1pm walk to Welcome flat in the rain arrive 7pm Saturday leave WF at 11am walk to Douglas Rock hut 3pm just as the rain arrived again Sunday leave Douglas rock 6am go to pass and back at 6.30pm perfect conditions (thought about Copland shelter but other side of pass too dangerous) Monday walk back to WF in the dry arrived as it started raining Tuesday leave 6am in the rain get back to car 12pm drive back to Nelson via Greymouth Maccas |
