If you are privvy to information given in confidence to you by Hillary, that you are taking to your grave with you, then you should have kept quiet in the first place. It is quite possible to envisage one or the other physically helping the other over the last few steps, and by so doing causing the other to be "first". This is what teamsmanship and comradeship is all about. ...But in the absence of any statements by Tensing or Hillary to this effect, then the world has only the public writings and talks by them to go on. It is no use you keep saying he was second, you should have kept your mouth shut. The concept of "being first" anyway in the context of climbing Everest shows the ignorance of the popular press and populace of the day then and now. It is a meaningless and futile debate. |
