1170868 2011-01-19 02:00:00 'Some' cough cough, AV companies cant be trusted with your Credit Card details & despite being fined in the US for their dodgy practices just keep on doing it. Really no better than the scammers they claim to protect you against

-not the ones recommend here ie NOD

1170870 2011-01-19 03:20:00 i have only just (after hardrive crash a month or so ago) stoped using nrton. i know, iknow sounds far fetched, but the pc didn't take as long to boot as Nod32, and when sacanning i didnt get the humungus freeze you normaly get when scanning. this is norton IS 2010, and only nod i had was the 9 version. persnal preference i spose, has anyone here used the new NIS or just the old 08-09 sh!tter versions? 1170871 2011-01-19 03:28:00 I think the last version I used was 2005 or something, It ran pretty badly but that wasn't the only problem.

Several times, NAV screwed up, wouldn't detect a thing, updates would fail to work, couldn't uninstall, couldn't reinstall, the removal tool only worked half the time - reinstalled Windows about four times because of Norton.

I tried NOD32 for a while after recommended it on here, I liked it but I got sick of paying for Antivirus, think I used Avast! for a bit, probably tried other things like AVG etc, then AntiVir Free for a while, now I use Comodo.

I have ClamAV installed on Ubuntu also, it's very useful.

1170872 2011-01-19 03:47:00 only nod i had was the 9 version. Just curious-- Where did you get that version number from -- The latest is version 4.2.67.10

To answer your Question about the latest NIS -- tested it, and while it is a vast improvement on previous versions, it still gives troubles (see it on customers PC's) , and there is still a noticeable speed drop over Nod32, and it doesn't detect as many infections compared to nod.

Right. I have used NOD32 for years, installed it on loads of customers PCs too.
Never seenany freeze or slower boot times.

As for Nortons the MAIN reason we hate it is it doesn't detect much at all.

Rather a severe problem in an antivirus.

1170875 2011-01-19 06:07:00 Oh, popular misconception... the 60 day trial is actually 60 days for you to try to get their software completely off your system. If you haven't succeeded after 60 days you'll likely be stuck with whatever bits remain for the life of the computer. Paul.Cov (425)

Surely it doesn't take 60 days to format and reinstall Windows? :D
