1170857 2011-01-18 23:46:00 Have just bought a new conputer running windows 7 premium and have activated the 60 days free trial of norton. When this trial expires do you reccomend I pay to continue with this or trust the built in protection of windows 7 or use some other protection? I only use the computer for internet and downloading my photos. donald (15621)
1170858 2011-01-18 23:48:00 No install something else / something thats free. Windows only comes with a firewall, not an AV program Speedy Gonzales (78)
1170859 2011-01-18 23:49:00 Don't even bother with the trial, it's the worst piece of software ever created by anyone. :yuck: pcuser42 (130)
1170860 2011-01-18 23:50:00 No definitely not, uninstall Norton as soon as the trial finishes or earlier and instal something like Microsoft security essentials which is free or if you want the best pay for Eset Nod32 gary67 (56)
1170861 2011-01-18 23:51:00 If you want *the* best in the biz, you want NOD32. It's paid, but it's definitely the best!

If you don't wanna pay, then Security Essentials is still pretty good, not quite as good, but still good enough for the better part of it ... and it's free, by far the best of all the freebies too, and still infinitely better than Nortons ;)

1170862 2011-01-18 23:55:00 Yeah, dump Norton ASAP and get something else Agent_24 (57)
1170863 2011-01-19 00:09:00 NOD32 is the best nedkelly (9059)
1170864 2011-01-19 00:17:00 You want NOD32 for a pay antivirus.
In addition you should have 2 anti-spywares, Spybot + either Superantispyware or Malware bytes.

1170865 2011-01-19 00:49:00 Depends what version. I Like NOD32 but i dont like how resource hungry it is, Norton uses piss all resources. Only problem i had was that i could not turn the bugger off. at all. No such thing as "turn off auto protect for 15mins". I would keep it if i realy truly cared about viruses, however i don't. il back up. Mr_Olympia (7727)
1170866 2011-01-19 00:58:00 Nod32 uses less resources than Norton. Its also a lot better antivirus.

If a person is using Nod32 & XP you may find in the event viewer, under system a lot of " Side by Side" errors, which can give the impression of resource hungry app. This is caused by a update from MS quite a while back - but its very easy to fix as well.
