| 1170704 | 2011-01-18 01:13:00 | Got a really weird problem with an ACER Aspire 5100 Laptop . It streams left square bracket keystrokes! I have found that pressing any other key will stop the stream and you can then type normally EXCEPT that the left sq bracket key does nothing, nada, zip . After a while it will decide to start the streaming again, usually accompanied by noises from the spkrs (buffer overuns?? inappropriate activity??) . I have got Vista to re-install the kbrd dvr (Launch Manager) but this didn't stop it . Sounds a bit like a kbd replacement?? In addition, it also rapidly, and loudly, continuously beeps and stops during the POST . Pressing a key causes it to continue with the boot process after another few seconds of beeping . Not sure of the relevance, but it always stops just after "Video BIOS shadowed" and before "ATAPI CDROM" . Either this machine has two problems or the key streaming is causing the POST beeping . Easiest thing to do is tell the owner to take it to an ACER repair agent but any other suggestions suggestions helpfully received! |

| 1170707 | 2011-01-18 03:52:00 | keyboards are usually easy to get at (well at least on HP laptops) get hold of the service manual from somewhere to find the instructions. Usually its a few screws on the bezel (from underneath) then the bezel sohuld come away. After that its a few screws on the kb and the ribbon cable to remove and the old one is out. reverse procedure for the new one |

| 1170711 | 2011-01-18 08:18:00 | Thanks, WT. Had a look around and find Raytechnz have them for $60 on TM. Amazon have them for $9.30!! Easiest route is to get the $60 one I guess. | linw (53) | ||
| 1170712 | 2011-01-18 08:56:00 | I hate Amazon. Every time I find something that I want to buy they tell me they can't ship it outside USA. eBay is much better. |
