1170644 2011-01-17 23:52:00 I want to record satellite freeview TV onto my computer and save and replay it from my hard drive. I am looking at getting this (www.computerlounge.co.nz).

Any recommendations from users would be appreciated.

If you want to record a different channel than you are watching, you need a dual tuner : dual of the same type.

I gave up on my PC TV tuners. I had a sat & tried a DVB-T .
Set top box was just more reliable.

1170646 2011-01-18 03:01:00 it should work fine, but possibly checking what software it comes with might be a good Idea.

I have an HVR1200 for DVB-T and it mostly works well but there were some setup issues under XP. When I got mine there was no software easily available that was compatable with NZ's broadcast standard. I don't know if this was true of DVB-S.

Quite a rigamarole for me originally, paid for DVBVIEWER, got Power DVD pro for the codecs, and gave up on getting a remote working. Worked brilliantly except nothing will play back the recordings except the original software (VLC comes close but had no sound last time I tried).

Windows 7 mostly fixes this, it downloads a few files automatically and away you go. No other software required. I do find Win7 glitches more often than my old setup but its a whole lot easier to get working.

1170647 2011-01-18 03:42:00 For viewing software I would suggest GB-PVR Agent_24 (57)

Thanks I googled the programme. It appears that it has been superceded by NextPVR (www.gbpvr.com).

I have a bit of reading to do.

1170649 2011-01-18 06:02:00 Wow, I did not know that! Must have happened quite recently... Agent_24 (57)
1170650 2011-01-18 06:23:00 Yes, just in the past few months I think. Its quick and easy to setup, but not full documentation yet. The driver choices have expanded recently as well. PPp (9511)
1170651 2011-01-18 06:41:00 I don't think even GB-PVR ever had full documentation :p

It worked for what I wanted though, which was recording TV shows with my ATi 550 Pro. I didn't use it as a full-time PVR or anything.

I don't like what I read though, that NextPVR says you need to install some Hauppauge software for all analog cards. Mine is ATi and of course I do not have any Hauppauge software with it!!

I wonder if Mediaportal 2 is out yet?

1170652 2011-01-18 06:59:00 Too bad GB-PVR or mediaportal didnt work for me. Got so far, neither worked, couldnt even get a signal. So, both went in the bin, and I went back to AverTV Speedy Gonzales (78)
1170653 2011-01-18 21:05:00 Has anyone here given NextPVR a good trial ??
Im seriously considering it.

I had it all working with mediaportal.
But was extremly buggy, took hours to setup the TV cards & get it working
Crashed often (TV Tuner in mediaportal) & often the TV tuner just wouldnt work
(software issues) - both tuner cards I tried had the same issues

_ in the end it just wasnt worth the ongoing effort. Still using Mediaportal, just not the tuners.

Getting the TV Guide (Chanel program listing) to work was/is a nightmare.
But then, it doesnt even work particularly well in my Freeview set-top box.
