Speaking on behalf of the more general user than a enthusiast, I upgraded from 3GB to 10GB. I didn't use all the 10GB up despite I downloaded a 3GB (?) Linux distro and a 500MB one. I don't use torrents or internet tv, we have a tv and we rent DVDs. 3GB was alright if you just did work stuff, email stuff, read the news, the odd Win Update as they are made available. Had for 3+ years.

IMO, internet is not that pricey for the "general" user - the majority. It's on par or even a bit less than other services like Sky TV, landline, or landline with a calling deal or typical mobile phone plans.

While you could skew it, it's not a good representation. Ie., don't say you use the internet but you use v v little phone or don't watch Sky. Within NZ, if the avg person has Sky and enjoys it or the landline or the mobile phone it is on par with broadband.

I am not sure many general people would cancel their TV, dont' install Freeview, or anything and just use the internet to watch TV. I personally can't see the majority using hundreds of GBs per month just for day-day. Who knows maybe in future we do away our antennas and satelitte dishes, phonelines and just use DSL. Maybe Wifi is so abundant with free internet we could do away our mobile phones.

FX Networks are laying out fibre in our streets currently, even thou there is also ADSL2+, I doubt I would move out of ADSL1.

I think more emphasis should be in jobs and lifestyle then you could have a greater life outside the computer box.

Other than going to the high ends, IT stuff in NZ is pretty okay pricewise. Living stds are also okay when you compare to other countries. Airfares and stuff / accom are not bad. To me it's maybe the NZ infrastructure and the lack of pace well that can be due to the NZ style ... and where we are located. Due to that may of impacted onto the wages but then again we may have a better alignment of high and low pay compared to some other countries.

1127281 2010-08-13 05:46:00 That article puts a massive spin on the survey's results.

These are the results:

* 26 percent say that expansion of affordable broadband access should not be attempted by government

* 27 percent said it was "not too important" a priority

* 30 percent said it was an important priority

* 11 percent said it should be a top priority.

This is my summary: "68% of respondents think government should attempt expansion of affordable broadband access".

We don't expect more from stuff of course.

Population size has no effect on required sample size :/
