1125780 2010-08-08 21:21:00 Hi guys, just doing a little bit of homework for tech..

Can you guys tell me what your top 3 antivirus softare and spyware would be (3 of each)
It doesn't matter if they cost or are free.
I will then research the advantages of all 6, the features they provide and the differences between free and paid versions.

I then have to choose one antivirus and one antispyware that I would reccomend and why.

Thanks heaps in advance guys, would love to hear from you all and especially the technicians out there.

cheers

1125782 2010-08-08 21:34:00 You can ONLY have one Antivirus on a PC for a start - other wise they conflict.

AV: Nod32 > Microsoft Security Essentials > Avast

Reason: All the others, Techs regularly see PC's infected.

IF you also want the common Crap ones that fail regularly for your results, either miss to much, or are system hogs.

Norton products > trend micro > McAfee > AVG

Antispyware - No one product gets them all, you generally need 2-4.

AntispyMalware: Super Antispyware > Spybot S&D > Malwarebytes > Spyware terminator.

For cleaning out infected PC's you sometimes need more stronger/ Specialized programs.

Thanks heaps WainuiTech, I know they conflict don't worry, we just have to find 3 of each and choose which one we would pick, it's not actually for cleaning out a system, it's only theory. I'm up to the security part of my course you see :S

1125785 2010-08-08 23:08:00 How does Kapersky fit in, wainuitech?

Last time I tested it, it wasn't to good -- but that was over a year ago.

A few months back I did uninstall it from a persons laptop because infections had damaged it, they also had let it expire by two to three Weeks (from memory).
To be honest - I don't personally see Kapersky that often these days on peoples Computers - mainly Norton or McAfee because thats what comes with there toaster shop PC/Laptop.

1125786 2010-08-08 23:43:00 BUT, forget using anything if you use P2P programs. Because sooner or later you'll download something and it'll kill it anyway

Forget Nortons, AVG, Mcafees, Kaspersky, or Zonealarm. All are known to cause probs, and all of them, will crash a system, sooner or later.

1125787 2010-08-09 07:21:00 Anti-virus products these days are also anti-spyware, so the categories are really preventative maintenance, realtime protection & emergency response.

The best Anti-virus application is Eset NOD32. Next is Microsoft Security Essentials although I tend to use Avast on slower computers if the customer doesn't want to buy NOD32

I wonder if many on here have such a fear of P2P.

1125789 2010-08-09 08:47:00 They can use P2P programs, if they want, thats not my prob. BUT, sooner or later I bet most of them will get infected. Out of all the computers I've fixed, ALL of them were infected with something, and ALL of them had some kind of P2P program installed Speedy Gonzales (78)
