2011-01-23 04:51:00 | Whenever I connect my USB cable from my cellphone to the front ports of my computer, my monitor goes blank for a second and restarts the computer . The first screen that pops up is my Gigabyte motherboard (it's a built computer . . not store-bought) . But it doesn't get any further than the Gigabyte screen so I have to hold in the power button for 5 seconds and turn it off . BUT . . I can plug in anything else, as in an external hard drive or thumb drive, into either of the USB ports and it computer is perfectly fine . It doesn't restart or cause me any issues . It's just getting to the point where it's bugging the crap out of me . The computer runs perfectly fine other than that issue . Does anyone have ANY idea why it would do that?

2011-01-23 07:00:00 | I accidentally shorted my front usb ports of my desktop with a 3.5mm headphone plug while gaming in the dark. Made my pc reset instantly. Might be doing the same thing. Does it work with a rear usb port? If not, might be a problem with the phone's handling of the usb wiring or something. | 8ftmetalhaed (14526) | |
2011-01-23 18:49:00 | The first screen that pops up is my Gigabyte motherboard BUT.. I can plug in anything else You mean it goes into the BIOS? And what specific part does it show you? It might be causing power problems, in fact it probably is.

I'd go on the search for bad motherboard capacitors, and also would seriously question the suitability of the power supply. |

2011-01-23 19:49:00 | Ok . Let me try and answer all the questions and suggestions :) Disable auto-restart, then see what the stop error says I disabled auto restart and I didn't see any errors when I plugged in my charger . However it did restart like it typically does; blank screen then gets stuck at the Gigabyte screen . You mean it goes into the BIOS? And what specific part does it show you? Normally when I start up my computer, the first screen that shows up is my Gigabyte mobo screen that gives me options as in press this to go into BIOS and what not . Then it goes into the next screen saying "Starting Operating System" and it starts up Windows 7 like normal . But when I plug in my USB phone cable and only the phone USB cable, it seems like it restarts my computer then that screen pops up and it gets stuck and I have to hold the power button in for 5 seconds and shut it down . I accidentally shorted my front usb ports of my desktop with a 3 . 5mm headphone plug while gaming in the dark . Does it work with a rear usb port? I tried plugging it in the back and it didn't restart my computer . It worked fine . My first thought was that it was shorting it but I really don't know how I can tell . It's just odd that it only does it with my USB cable for my phone and nothing else . It doesn't seem as though the cable itself it damaged in any way . It seems like I would have to put it in the back . That's just a pain when I have the front ports . . It just doesn't make sense that I can't plug it in the front ports . I'd go on the search for bad motherboard capacitors, and also would seriously question the suitability of the power supply . I have a 600 watt power supply . I could show you the specs if you needed to see them .
