1171858 2011-01-23 01:03:00 A friend is using a Telecom supplied Thompson WiFi Modem/Router. It has been working fine until recently, the desktop PC and laptop connects to it fine via ethernet cable, but Wifi is not working properly any more.

The default IP of the Thompson is 192.168.1.254 but for some unknown reason the laptop will connect to it via WiFi and get 192.168.0.77, yet it will work properly when connected via LAN cable.

Initially I thought it is something to do with the TCP stack playing up, but it doesn't explain why it works fine on cable but only got wrong IP when connected via WiFi. Anyway I ran WinSockXPFix and that did nothing, even setting fixed IP did nothing, it shows it's connected to the Router but can't even ping the router.

Brought laptop home and it connected to my WiFi router fine and worked as expected. I will probably try a different router at their place when I get around to it. But meanwhile, any suggestions on this weird problem?

1171859 2011-01-23 02:34:00 disable then re-enable the wifi. If that doesn't work try a complete reset and firmware upgrade (if there is any, i'm doubtful). If that doesn't work my guess is faulty. icow (15313)

Already done that, that's one of the 1st things I always do when it comes with WiFi connection issue . I have had a lot of issues with WiFi not waking up from Sleep mode on other laptops, the disable/enable step usually fix that .

Haven't tried driver or firmware update on the WiFi adapter yet, might give that a go . But the funny thing is it used to work with their router but stopped all of a sudden recently, yet it works perfectly fine when connected to my router now, so it kind of indicates that the wifi adapter is working . Not sure if it's the their router that's playing up .

It's sp

Will have to take a different router over to their place, try that, then also try the firmware/driver update option .
