1171831 2011-01-22 22:32:00 Hi Guys,

I have been a bit slack and have not made a rescue CD/DVD for my new Windows 7 desktop.

I am going to do it now. Start, type in System Repair in the search box.

Have you all got one?

Have you ever had to use one ?

Do you add any other programs to it ?

(Notice how Americans use discs?)

1171832 2011-01-22 22:38:00 Yes I have got one.

Yes I have used it.

I did not add any other programs to it as I have other CDs with other tools.

1171834 2011-01-23 00:13:00 Well I was a silly boy then.
I do have a Windows 7 DVD.
But everyone says you should have a rescue disk.
So now I have the best of both worlds.

1171836 2011-01-23 00:21:00 Rescue as in a WIndows boot disk? No.
I do have a bootable disk for my Image program, boot PC and restore image if it all turns to custard.

To just boot off something and view the contents of the drive (without another PC handy) Linux does the trick.

The reason Microsoft offered this feature was because OEMs (Dell etc) usually provide recovery discs (restoring junk as well :yuck:) rather than proper Windows DVDs. Microsoft's recovery disc is effectively a standard Windows disc without the installation files. :)

1171839 2011-01-23 07:18:00 I always figured disk was for non removable or maginetic media like harddisks and floppy disks, whereas disc was for cd's and whatnot.

And I believe I have a windows 7 rescue disc. But I also have a windows 7 dvd as well as factory restore discs for my laptop.

Thanks for that great explanation!
