| 1171756 | 2011-01-22 08:33:00 | Yes I realise the gpu is weak as we don't need a large graphic capability. Overall is the computer good and is Dell a reputable company. Have heard differing opinions from lay people so thought I wopuld ask the experts on here | dianne pierce (13385) | ||

Probability of failure is likely to be slightly higher than some other options but so what, by the time it fails you may have won lotto? I got a quad core Dell a couple of years back and it suits me fine. It did have a problem in the first few weeks but a Dell guy came to my house and replaces some hardware to fix it, doubt many other shops would do that. But I think your hard drive is too small, store a few photos and videos and 320 will be gone. I would get two drives if your money will run to that in order to make backups easier. |

I agree with your views. As regards harddisk, it's quite easy to solve, when the need arises, just get an external hdd and plug it in, simple as that. |

It doesn't tell you want brand of individual components are in the PC - and that's what determines whether or not it is quality or not and whether or not you can expect reliability. Dell also has a poor reputration for after sales service. Google it and you'll find loads of complaints from people. Buy local and use a reputable shop like Computer Lounge or PLaytech. And get decent parts in it. |

Comparing the number of customers to number of complaints I suspect that would probably put them on par with each other. |

| 1171761 | 2011-01-22 20:48:00 | I have a Dell E521 - I was completely happy with it until I started to look at upgrades and found their proprietary parts (can't shift motherboard to a new case) and internal set up (not much room in there for a current video card) meant upgrading was a pain . What you've selected looks good to me unless you plan on being able to upgrade it, instead of just buying a new box every 3-5 years or so . Me, I like to upgrade so I'm building my next PC . If you're not into tinkering and upgrading your PC then Dell is fine and what you've selected is fine (I assume you're working to budget and have selected the package that best suits how you intend to use it) . Cheers! |

I think PCtek was getting at being able to get quality brand name components and knowing what they are before they arrive on you doorstep all neatly wrapped up in the case. If you know the brand and do the research you can make you own decision as to whether you want the components. I don't know about Computer Lounge but the MB an RAM in my system from Dell are "no names" and in hindsight I wouldn't be happy with that anymore. |

| 1171763 | 2011-01-22 22:00:00 | I will stick my neck out and say . . . If you are not IT savy, and don't care if you can tinker your system, for most people Dell are quite ok . Dell are nicer that they are quieter and lighteweight . If you wanna do a comparison go here and just select the CPU and the cheapeste motherboard and the cheapeset RAM . Do a comparison to the price . If you don't need a video card, just get a motherboard with builtin video card which would be cheaper . . computerlounge . co . nz/components/combobuilder . asp" target="_blank">www . computerlounge . co . nz If you want a nice 27" Ultrasharp monitor, Dell sell them separately too . I have a 24" and they have good service for those higher end stuff, not sure if the PC in question is higher end . Higher end warranties are 24hr courier replacement to your door and you send the old one in the box bac to them with the provided free courier sticker, you call this number and they even pick it up from your door . 27" Ultrasharps are quite good with the matte screen for graphics, common and people say it compares to the Mac Displays . |
