1171573 2011-01-22 00:16:00 I have a 40Gb Cap on my plan which I use up completely every month. The Telecom usage meter always lags behind by anything up to 2 to 5 hours. I am aware of this and allow for it. I use an excellent program called NetWorx which is installed on all 5 computers on my network and keeps track of usage collectively in real time. My question is. Why does the telecom usage meter always show about .05% or 2Gb more than the NetWorx meter at the end of the month. I would expect some difference but 2Gb/month or nearly 70Mb/day is a lot of lost packets. when I had a 40Gb Plan with Orcon with all the same hardware the difference was usually about .01%/month.
Anyone have any similar experience or information that I can use before I tackle Telecom.
Thanks,
Ian

1171574 2011-01-22 01:06:00 I use to use both, but never really compared them monthly. Discussion here (www.softperfect.com) about Networx and ISP comparisons. Mentions about the number of sessions might have an effect. kahawai chaser (3545)
1171575 2011-01-22 01:16:00 I used netflow to monitor traffic with my Cisco router(s), and at the end of every month I too would notice a slight discrepancy. The ISPs do not publish specifications on what they do and do not count as traffic (to a packet level), so it's always going to be hard to try and get the same results, even with the most rigorous enterprise solutions... 1171576 2011-01-22 02:02:00 There will always be lost packets and other things which hit your router, and don't get any further. Traffic which is blocked by your router's firewall will also not make it through to your PCs, and thus NetWorx won't see it.

~2GB a month variation is not unusual.

Thanks again,
Ian
