1171367 2011-01-21 03:49:00 Hey guys,

Looking at getting a 12' laptop (netbook?) for Uni. Other than word processing and web browsing I'd want it to be able to play videos and maybe a bit of football manager 2011 (although I admit that might be stretching it a bit). Budget stretches to around $1000

Any ideas? I've looked at an Asus 1215n (www.computerlounge.co.nz)and the Dell m101z (the dual core one) (www1.ap.dell.com) but the Dell has integrated graphics and the Asus apparantly has a chronic problem with its poorly designed power port.

Any help is greatly appreciated :thanks

ASUS has better after sales service than Dell, at least In NZ.
There are other models too other than what you have listed.

Give CL a ring and see what they recommend.

That looks brilliant but I'm a tad concerned a 15' will be a bit big to carry around all day. (upon re-reading that I realise I sound like a bit of a poof) :o

1171374 2011-01-21 23:25:00 I just brought the HP 110-3538 (www.bondandbond.co.nz) from B/B, which has the dual core Atom 550 processor (benchmark tests (www.netbookreviews.net)), and plays youtube videos easily. But of course includes too many HP add-ons, links, references, etc. kahawai chaser (3545)

I have that with the standard Atom processor, I just leave a flash drive in (4Gb) and use readyboost works OK not the fastest machine in the world but good for what I do. I un installed all the HP crap installed service pack 1 then took an image, so that if I have to reinstall I get what I want and not what HP want me to have

I will uninstall HP utilities also. Could not get the readyboost displaying until I removed sufficient files from my flash drive. But now running/logging counters to see if any real speed boost. Thanks for mention of readyboost. Did you notice any speed boost?
