| 1171274 | 2011-01-20 20:02:00 | My niece's laptop is an HP Pavilion running Windows 7. She told me the screen was blank when she came back in to use it. First thing I tried was to hold in the power button for 5 seconds. Didn't work so I gave 10 seconds a shot. Still didn't work. Next step was unplug it then take out the battery. Obviously it turned off. So I kept the battery out for a few minutes and put it back in and pushed power. LED lights came on and I heard it start up but nothing happened on the screen. The screen is blank. Since it was still unplugged I took out the battery and plugged it back in and turned it on. Still the LED lights came on but nothing was on the screen. The laptop went silent after about 3 seconds but the LED lights were still on and one light was blinking that made me think it's stuck in sleep mode. I don't hear anything running. Anyone have an idea of what's going on or how to get it to start up normally? |

I hooked up a working Dell monitor to the laptop then put in the battery and turned on the laptop. Still nothing. The LED lights light up and I heard the laptop start up and go silent after about 3 seconds. The monitor power button is usually green when it's not in standby but it stays orange as if it's in standby. Any more suggestions? My family has to realize that just because I'm a web designer does not mean I know how to fix a computer! lol. |

Keep pressing F8 while it starts up. If you get nothing out of that then the next option is to try booting from the Win7 CD and running a repair install. Others here may have further ideas also. |

| 1171280 | 2011-01-20 21:54:00 | Possibly a GPU issue? As above, what do you mean heard it start up? Like heard the bios beep or heard windows welcome sound or what? | 1156 (16176) | ||

Sorry, I didn't explain that well enough . No, I'm not hearing any beeps or a welcome . . nothing like that . What I'm hearing is the typical start up sound of the hard drive or fans then a few seconds later silence . But the computer is still on because I can see the LED lights . One part that's bugging me is the WiFi light is typically green when it's picking up WiFi but no matter what that WiFi light is orange . I'll try taking out the battery and putting it back in and turning it on in hopes in getting it into safe mode . Is it possible that it's still stuck in sleep mode even though the battery was removed? I'll get back to you guys in a little! Thanks . |

Reason for saying that is from your original post First thing I tried was to hold in the power button for 5 seconds. Didn't work so I gave 10 seconds a shot. Still didn't work. The power buttons not working can mean dead circuits somewhere. |
