Any recommendations?

1170982 2011-01-19 08:31:00 Does it need to be in NZ, or is anywhere OK? What are you going to be running? As in, do you need MySQL also?
Are you going to be reselling or just a single site?
Hosting video or just something such as a forum?
How much disk space do you need? Transfer monthly?

Anywhere
Gaming web site
Forum and site software such as Joomla, wordpress etc
Database requirements built into forum software (I think)
Single site
Might be some video but only a few clips
Site averages about 5gb (prefer minimum of 20gb for overhead)
Transfer is about 25gb a month (prefer unlimited for overhead)

1170984 2011-01-19 09:50:00 I run a few of my sites from www.000webhost.com

They have been up for 2x years. as far as hosts go they seem pretty darned good. especially as they are free.

You can get a free subdomain or register any paid domain to their name servers. I use co.cc and .tk

1170985 2011-01-19 10:09:00 There free service is not big enough but their paid is cheap enough and covers the bases.
I'll look into it.

1170986 2011-01-19 10:34:00 I have used Utopia for at least 10 years and they are excellent. Maybe not the cheapest, but 1st class support and all the 'bells & whistles' mzee (3324)
1170987 2011-01-19 11:02:00 Hostgator offer some pretty good deals usually. DaveBritton (7395)
1170988 2011-01-19 12:28:00 How much space do you need? Then again, you can't go wrong with the paid!! unlimited :D The Error Guy (14052)
1170989 2011-03-12 05:31:00 Be weary of cheap hosting.

Cheaper hosting is often bogged down with 100's of sights using the same server - makes sense - people need to make money some how. Loads may cause slow speeds at peak times and if you share your IP address with the other sites on the server (often the case) you may well experience problems with your email address becoming blocked. Some cheap hosting sites also throttle back the database servers.

There are some great hosting services around but most of the good ones cost money. If your sight is a business one then i recommend you go for paid services.

If your customers are international then a NZ host may not be your best choice.
